As race season here is over, and I´m about to disassemble my 65 vintage race sedan - the ex. Gene Felton 65 Mustang sedan ARRC racer - to restore it back to how it was at the 1967 Trans Am, Paul Revere 250 4th of July midnight race, I´m searching the web for historical input and facts about the races and my car in particular. By coincidence I stumbled upon this very nice original Shelby hardtop A-sedan race car that participated in both the 66 and 67 ARRC just like mine.

As I haven´t seen the car on this site, I thought some of you might find it interesting.

If you are interested in vintage racing, maybe you want to check out this very interesting German Mustang site - www.ponysite.de

Some of the story behind my car is here:

I´m still looking for more info on some of the following, so if any of you can fill in some of the missing pieces I would be very thankful.

    * Dave Tallaksen owned my car the first short period after it came of the dealer lot, raced it and actually set a lap record at Roebling Road in 65.
I would really like to get in touch with Mr. Tallaksen, but I can´t find much about him. Anyone know?

    * Any info/pictures/race programs etc. from the 66 and 67 Southeast division races, the 66 and 67 ARRC races and the 67 Paul Revere 250 Trans Am

    * Shelby Race Assistance Program - How did this work? What did the drivers pay / what did Shelby pay? Who got in this program?
My car was in this program, have several cheques/invoices?, letter from Lew Spenser.

I´m trying to learn more about the SCCA sedan races in 65-67. Can anyone tell me about, or maybe direct me to more info about the Shelby Race Assistance Program?

I have seen newspaper adds placed by Shelby American promoting the results of the races but do not in detail know exactly how this was run.

Anyone? Somebody has got to know something about the Race Assistance Program:)

    Have a nice day :)

    Thank you

    Hi Dan

The 98351 is doing great. Actually I haven´t put more than 250 miles on it since I got it from you. Maybe you remember me saying that getting the car to pass initial import inspections would be a challenge, and it has proved to be quite a pain. Because the car is born as a 6 cyl car, we cannot get anyone to approve the inspection documents. Saleen has been VERY uncoorperative in every sence of the word. Not even some simple spec. documentation showing officially that the car had 510 hp etc. have they been willing to supply. WORST customer service ever!!!

But I´m still optimistic. So far we have built a new custom exhaust to bring the noise level down to Totota Corolla level :) (the original system is unharmed and will be put back on the car as soon as the paperwork is ok:) ), the car is going on a dyno for the german TÜV inspection authorities to try and approved the car for European specs.
But some times I have been wanting just to sell the car back to the US ...

As you know I still have my 98 Saleen Cobra convertible, and this I will keep untill the S351R is ready.

How are you doing? Any new cars in the garage?

    Anders

Re: Questions about - Shelby Race Assistance Program, mid sixties

Try contact the 1965-67 registrars at SAAC to see if they can lead you in the right direction. Also, the former Shelby employees site: http://legendconnection.org might be of assistance.

I have a copy of a 4-page memorandum on Shelby American letterhead entitled "1967 RACE ASSISTANCE PROGRAM". Memo talks about eligible vehicles, Requirments for Eligibility, Payouts and parts assistance for SCCA and Trans Am Sedan championships.
