I have a friend who's car came with painted Magnum 500 wheels instead of the chrome ones. Does someone know the correct paint color of the painted wheels? Was there any other differences in these wheels? Does anyone know where there is a set of correct Hertz Magnum 500 wheels restored, restorable, or in excellent used condition? Thanks in advance. Lee; I have 2 66's, one Hertz, with an original set of chrome Magnums, and a non-Hertz, with painted Magnums. I was fortunate enough to find an N.O.S. set of painted Magnums, but they were not cheap. I can say that the original finish on those wheels is almost like a silica-based paint, such as the military uses on their vehicles. It is durable, and has a slight texture to it. I have seen people powder coat their wheels, and they just do not look right. Also, the original magnums do not have the safety bead, on the outer rim. After 1966, all wheel manufacturers were required to have the safety bead. I can send you photos, if you wish. The outer rim looks flat, as you go from where the center meets the rim, to the tire. Hope this helps.
