There is one listed on eBay right now. With only 149 miles, I gotta think Hertz kept this in the back of the lot just waiting to auction it off and make a killing off their initial investment.
Believe it or not...... a lot of them don't get rented. Atlanta Air Port sends many cars to auction with less miles on them then that one has and a lot of them are Mustangs (a friend works their). Some Air Ports I am sure received more of the GT-H Shelbys then other Air Ports did and most likely a few of them did not get rented because of that. After all.... it costs a bundle to rent one. Rental Places sends cars to Auction using "Time" instead of "Mileage" as a scale to determine when the car is Auctioned. David.
JUst sounds like crap to me. To me....that car would be worth less than any rented gt-h. BEst Regards, Vern
I rented one in Denver and took to the Shelby American collection in Boulder. It was a cool trip. I don't believe the 149 miles though. I was told that the cars were moved from airport to airport or from city to city across the country. There is no way a company like Hertz would let an asset sit with no use for a year. They would just move the car to a city with higher demand.
Was just at Tampa airport And rented a car through Hertz they have 3 conv. all were there in the return line with the tops down !!!!!!! they are having no trouble renting them took pictures of all three and there serial #'s Dominic
I know several of you have rented a Shelby GT-H. Will you describe your Rental Experiance with us. What was needed to Rent One, the Charges, the Final Cost etc...... Thanks. David.
I rented one in Boston last summer and took it up to Maine for three or four days. Convinced me to buy one if I ever had a chance (and I did). I think I got lucky in multiple ways - they didn't have the regular Mustangs at the airport when we flew in, so I flippantly asked for the upgrade to "the black one out front." New girl behind the counter said that was okay, but she'd have to charge me $10 more than the regular rental. Ended up paying around $75 or $85 per day with unlimited miles. I think the daily cost and mileage limits varied greatly around the country. Since it was at the airport and I didn't live in Massachusetts, they didn't need to see anything special like my airline ticket (just my DL). I got a 10 minute introduction and my photo taken with the car before I left - a tourist photo, not a mug shot in case I didn't bring the car back! I was stopped maybe ten times on our vacation and asked about the car. Since I purchased one a few months ago, I take it out a few times a week and still get plenty of people asking about it who've never seen one up close.
By the way, I asked the seller about the extremely low miles. Here was his reply : "I believe it was driven only once. It is what it is and I can verify miles, because I'm the one that personally took all the pictures and gathered all the information on it. Bid on it, it's worth it." Rented only once?!
I apologize for starting my thread having not noticed this one before. For your question, David, although I think I mentioned it in my thread too, the rental process is a PITA, which I can understand especially given the rumors of "the good old days" and how the cars were returned. In Denver only the mgr could sign us out & in, and they went over a 2 page check list, then when it was returned they put it on the hoist after we'd checked it in. It was great fun to rent, but I don't know that I'd do it again because I was so paranoid something would happen. I irritated many by taking up 2 spaces, and the front's so low you have to be super careful. I scuffed it and drove 50 mi to get some Ford touch-up paint. The worry about the car almost got to the point I figured I'd just rent a basic Mustang convert next time. I think I lucked out, though, because it was unlimited free mileage. Finally, about the rental with 100 some miles and the one I know was at auction, I have a very hard time believing it. At least they were so popular in Denver it was pretty much just luck we got it. Something seems very odd about the mileage situation, I don't get it.
Hi David, My husband David and I had a great experience with the Hertz Orlando Airport rental location. We were told to bring a current utility bill, a major credit card and our driver’s license. The cost per day was $129.99, plus mileage over the amount that came with the car. Like I have stated in other posts my husband and I truly had a fantastic time with both cars that we rented. I have another one rented from 7/3 to 7/11 this summer. It will be a surprise for my husband's 50th birthday. Apparently from another post you are required to sign a two page contract or document, they never mentioned this to us. All they did was give the keys fill it up with gas and told us to have fun with the car. I hope this helps you out. lilkit2
Since I wasn't there I'm sure not arguing with you, but from my experience in Denver was sure different; as I recall the rental price was closer to $200/day and as I said, it was a much more involved check-in and check-out process than any other car. For the fun of it I checked on the Hertz web site to see about Orlando, Miami & Ft. Lauderdale, but it says they are all out of cars for then so I can't compare. When I said it was a PITA, it was really just a bit more time-consuming and on the return, a bit more anxiety provoking worrying what they'd find under such close inspection. If they'll toss you the keys for $129/day; no fuss/no muss. Enjoy!
Hi MNlawpro, I should have mentioned that I had to get the Hertz Corporate Office involved in getting a rental car this year. I started on January 1 checking the Hertz site in order to reserve a car. Nothing was available; it stated they were all booked up until January of 2009. I found this strange so I called the Orlando Hertz office directly and Tom said yes they are a popular car. I then asked Tom for a number in NJ to see what exactly was going on, he couldn’t locate a number since there are so many listed that would be able to help me out. I wanted to know were the cars being pulled and put up for auction, were they no longer going to offer the GT-H's. Finally I had enough and I wrote a letter to three different higher up's at Hertz. Low and behold I got an answer from my new best friend at the Orlando Hertz location. She doesn't know why they are showing booked out until January 2009, but she has them for rent. The happy ending is yes we have our car for vacation. She has been super to us and we are now a Preferred Hertz Customer. My suggestion if you want to rent a GT-H, call the airport location directly, speak to the highest up manager you can get and see what is going on with their rentals. If you don’t get the answer you are looking for tell him or her that you will be contacting the Hertz Corporate Office directly. She apologized for all the run around I got. She made us a fantastic offer of (are you sitting down MNlawprof) $99.00 a day, unlimited mileage and added me as a driver at no charge. She said I should have never had to go through two months of checking online, making phones and sending out letters. The only thing she asked of me was not to give out her name, email address or phone number, I agreed it was the right thing to do. I will write and post pictures after our trip this summer. Good luck to all in renting a Shelby GT-H, Lilkit2
I rented a Hertz Shelby convert during Barrett- Jackson. It was a 07 and serial # 3. It was a additional 29.00 a day above the subcompact I had reserved. Maybe 59.99 per day ? Had it for 8 days. The had a inspection sheet that they went over when I took it but never asked for it back when I turned it back in. They had locked out the button to disable the traction control but if you pried the cap off the button you could then turn it off.
gth rental update I just posted to another thread, too, but was in DEN over the weekend and when I asked if they had any convertibles left to rent the reply was, "Just a Shelby GT-H, but you can have it for $80/day, unlimited mileage." Geez, I paid $200/day last summer for the same car.
You can tell that this is the first car because the the guage pod....i think the only car to get that factory was this car....it never went to hertz...bj car. Best Regards, Vern
