I have the opportunity to trade my '68 GT-350 for a '70 Boss 302 plus some cash. Both cars are very equal in condition however here are the differences, his paint is much nicer than mine, his engine compartment is nicer than mine, interiors are equal but of course mine has a roll bar, my trunk is nicer, and my undercarriage is slightly nicer. The Boss has a newer rebuilt motor and 3.91 gear, it runs hard. My Shelby's motor has not been touched other than headers and has a 3.00 open. Once moving it is fine but acceration is somewhat lacking. So, considering I could use a little money, not a dire situation yet, would you make the trade? Second, how much money plus the Boss would you think is fair for both parties? Thanks for your opinions.
Tough to say without looking at both cars. Boss 302's have been selling for anywhere from 40 k to 75 k depending on options, history and quality. From what i have seen 68 GT350 selling for...a neighborhood of 85 k...i figure if you could trade your car and get 30 k i think it would be a good deal. You could always ask for more but you have to be realistic...the deal has to be good on both sides...i think tesgt350 price is high...but then again it is hard to say without a skilled person appraising both cars. Contact Daviddalton...he is usually right on with prices and knows the values of both cars.
I think you should be considering how much you like owning and driving that Shelby and if you sell it will you ever have enough money to get back in the market!!!!! The market is soft right now but will move forward again with time. The next time you want to get back in all the models may be fetching over 100K. You could always pull the original 302 and put a nice stroker motor in change those 3.00 gears to 3.50 or 3.89 !!!!! Just my opinion !!! There are plenty of ways to make or borrow money. They only made so many original Shelbys but they print money every day !!!!!!!!!!!! Dominic
Both cars would have to be seen and inspected to really determine prices. http://motors.search.ebay.com/1968-..._trksidZm37QQcatrefZC12QQfromZR40QQsacatZ6001 http://motors.search.ebay.com/Boss-302_Cars-Trucks_W0QQ_trksidZm37QQcatrefZC12QQfromZR40QQsacatZ6001 Just compare what these cars are getting on ebay and you should be able to determine a good value! Best Regards, Vern
Both cars have there values go up and down, but not necessarily at same time. When the Shelby's go up (or Down) the Boss 302's usually follow probably because potential Shelby purchasers get priced out of the market and go to lower priced Muscle cars. I remember when GT500's and Boss 429's were valued equally. I'm sure there were some trades between the two that some regret and other are ecstatic. If you do a deal and decide to trade back into a Shelby 3,5,10 years down the road just don't expect the value between the two to be the same. The main thing is that you and the other party are agreeable on the amount difference and happy with the deal (and of coarse the cars).
Drmach, no offence but by the look of your avatar you already own a 70 Boss. I guess it depends on whether you want two?? Make mine Shelby please. LUV the Bosses and would own one tomorrow, but if I had the choice of owning a second Shelby I'd hope it wouldn't be another 68. Not that I dont like mine, I LUV it, but another model would be my choice. A 69 Boss would be a difficult choice. Just my two cents worth Dicko
OKay...... just what exactly is the avatar? His user name is Drmach and the pic beside his name is of his 68 Shelby Fastback. Am I missing something? I'm not bashing, I just want to know. Thanks. David.
The avatar is the little picture next to your name on every thread posted. In "drmach's" personal profile it does say he owns a 70 Boss. So i guess it would be his 2nd BOSS? Looking at your avatar your 68 Shelby looks like a sweet ride. Pull the motor and add some bottom end power to it. Stroke it and add a nice cam. You will feel like its a whole new Shelby and it will look stock. As far as Mustangs go I personally feel like I would not make the deal. Nothing compares to a Shelby. My good friend who I meet at the local cruise ins had a BOSS. He sold that and bought a 67 Shelby. Later he sold the Shelby and bought a Mach I. He regrets selling the Shelby but never regreted selling the BOSS. Guess what he's in the market for now, you guessed it, a 67Shelby. Just the name Shelby is a true American Icon when it comes to cars and racing legends. Take a Shelby to a show and park it next to a BOSS and see which one gets the most walk ups, pics and compliments. Don't get me wrong, a BOSS is a sweet ride but, if your looking for long term stability as an investor or a like myself, just a Mustang Nut, I think the Shelby will always outperform the Boss in looks, style, value and long term appreciation. But thats just my 2 cents. Jim
I sold my Shelby KR for a Boss. I wanted the money to buy some more land. I made more money off of the Boss then I did on the Shelby. So..I would say to grab the money NOW as you can always buy another Shelby.
I think it depends on what is most important - performance (BOSS would have it over the 68), appeal, status (Shelby over the BOSS) or some cash in your hand. I'm with Shelby~gt350#3000 - a Shelby is a Shelby. Cant get better than that. There were more 70 BOSS made than 68 GT500's so unless you really need the cash I would stick with the Shelby until you do. I'm sure you could find a 70 BOSS when the times comes. All the best with your decision. Rohan
Thanks to everyone for their thoughts. The Boss/Shelby trade fell through as we both felt our cars were worth a little more than the other thought. No problems, he had a nice car. My plan was to trade the Shelby for a Boss, then if I still needed to come up with a little cash trade my Boss project for a Mach 1. Right now I am going to try and hang on to both. I'm unemployed for a while so we'll see what happens. Boss 302's have always been my favorite so someone may still be able to twist my arm. Shelby's are certainly special and I realize if mine sells, I will likely never own another.
I think that you will regret it in the future because the shelby will always be a more sound investment and will always be worth more. How much more..???
I have both..67 GT350, and a 70 Boss 302, W axle code.... The Shelby always draws a bigger, general non-car crowd, but I have friends that I will let drive my cars, and they always prefer the Boss 302..... I love both cars, but the Boss is just a little more refined... I have also owned a 69 GT500,and a 71 Boss 351,,,,The Boss 302 remains my all time favorite... To each his own...
why don't you build a mustang just the way you like it. It won't be worth as much but it will be a lot of fun
