Hello all, I have a small question (which of course is likely to be linked to a large problem) concerning sooting of half the spark plugs. The front 4 plugs (numbers 1,2,5,6) in my 289 HiPo are heavily sooted, whilst the rear 4 plugs (numbers 3,4,7,8) are clean. Under load (of my right foot) the exhaust does chuck out black soot, which I'd imagine is linked to the plug blackening. Does anyone have any thoughts on what could be causing the problem? Thanks, James.
Hi Jamie . I had a 289 car that did the same . it was overfuelling via the choke spring adjustment on the carb ! TRY it , THX, John
If you have black smoke coming out of the exhausts, it sounds like too much fuel. Running rich or choke sticking as previously suggested.
Thank you fellas. I'll take the advice on board. There may be an issue with the intake manifold gasket, so I'll bear it all in mind. Thanks again.
