Great stories! Thanks for sharing Gino! Let me know if you ever need cars for a movie in MN or ND. I'll hook you up in the cold tundra North!

I remember years ago reading an article in one of the car magazines, (I think it was Car Craft) of a dire warning about Dodge Chargers becoming extinct. It seems that the TV production company that was making the Dukes of Hazard show was destroying 8 to 12 of these cars per episode. The warning was not to sell your Charger to someone who wanted to put it on TV. Since I didn't particularly like these cars, I saw no problem disposing of a few.:)

They were not destroying that many. They did destroy about 12 to 15 doing the Jumps. They used many Cameras to film the Jumps and just recycled those clips in every show.

Actually they were quite a few that were destroyed. I know the person making those cars up for the show. His name is Ted Moser, and he told me that by the time they were finished shooting the series, they had taken cars all the way from Ca. into tenn. I was told the number exceeded 80 plus....At the time I didn't think too much about it, but it would bother me now if someone did it. Also, production companies look at one factor very closely.."cost"...if it can be done cheaper with a plain body, versus a 440 6 pack, they would opt for the cheaper. Dont forget, once the paint job is done, who can tell them apart?

    My 2 cents....

    Gino,

Great fun to read your stories from an inside perspective. Didn't know Cruise was such a Mustang fan. Got any insight on the upcoming Brad Pitt "Bullitt" remake?

I will post what i can find out, as that movie is being shot in Los Angeles, the last I have heard....but, like the weather, things change all the time. For you guys my age, you might remember a movie called "phelam 123" about a runaway subway train in NYC, starring Walter Mattheau. I am presently starting to work on the remake, starring Denzel Washington, about a runaway train taken over by terrorists ready to do harm to NYC. All I can tell you is that the car budget is huge. I will post as we start to pick out different cars for the characters...maybe a Shelby? or a Mustang GT?

    Stay tuned...............

    Gino,
Wasn't that "The taking of Pelham 123"

If they are updating it, how do Vintage Shelby's fit in?

    Mike,

Thank you for the correction, I was quoting what we call the movie (in short)as if to say we are going to shoot" pelham123 " instead of the full title. Vintage Shelby's or Mustangs would not work, but as in the new Bullit...comtemporary Mustangs would work. More than likely the new cars will be used, if at all.. will keep you posted.

The worst thing about this is that I don't think the car got even a full minute of screen time before it gets blown up. They should have at least let us stare at it for a bit before destroying it.

Whatever they do with the remake of Pelham 123 I doubt they will better the fantastic OST of the original by David Shire.

I just read where Ford Motor Company is looking for the Owner of the Red 1971 MACH 1 Mustang that was used in the James bond Movie "Diamonds are Forever". If you know who the owner is contact the editor of "Mustang Times at editor@mustangtimes.org

There is a commercial on TV in which a 67 Camaro convert is 'accidently' rolled off a cliff after the guy forgets to set the brakes.
As it rolls over the cliff you can look to the rear of the front wheels and see sky where a motor should be.
It's probably just a bunch of bondo and paint over a rusty decapitated coupe.

Computer generated car stunts, however, suck.
