On the early 67 GT350's should the Cobra Powered By Ford decal be at the front of the air cleaner lid? What is the other decal opposite, 289 High Performance or the Autolite Spark Plug decal? Randy ______ 67 GT350 #0031 70 Boss 302 Grabber Green project
There is a picture in an article from Sports Car Graphic/March 1967, written by Jerry Titus, that shows the GT350 COBRA decal on the air cleaner. It's the only decal that I can see from a quite poor picture. Located at about 5 o'clock when looking from the front of the car. Of course, it's just to turn the lid in any position you like. /Texas Swede
Hi all ! The car in the Sports Car Graphic magazine is # 0050 we think.......so if it is any help, maybe somebody could post a picture?? Are there any other engine pictures from the media available?
Sorry, but I don't have the original magazine just a copy that Rick Kopek sent to me back in 1978 which probably won't show well enough from a scan. Will try today and see how it comes out. /Texas Swede
Sorry to butt in but I couldn't stand by and say nothing . The march issue of Sports Car Graphic on page 34 clearly shows The Cobra decal and a small white decal that refers to the correct air cleaner number and not the spark plug one on Rods air cleaner . It is much clearer and easier to see when you are looking at the mag in person that is why I try and pick them up every chance I get for friends at the swap meets. While we are on the subject The Feb issue of popular hot rod has a excellent GT350 engine shot for detail . Over the years every time I think I gleaned everything from these pictures I could I look again and see somthing else. On the other decal mentioned that JC makes it is excellent for the earlier cars. I hope this helps . I hesitate to post sometimes not wanting to hurt someones feelings about the way they have done it for so long. I hope I can sucessfully scan it tonight to post.
Bob: Would a late build 67 gt350 (in this case #3000) get the "cobra" sticker like you pictured or the "289 hi performance" orange sticker like I see on most? Thanks. Jim
Jim, the Cobra sticker is the correct one . Not to say a 289 hipo one couldn't have found it's way on a car by mistake but when the Shelby accessorized engines were put together at Ford for the 67 GT350 Shelby, the Cobra sticker was part of the build. The same Cobra sticker also found it's way onto the single four 427 and 428 engines that went into the 3000 series Cobra. It was the same air cleaner. I think that the reason that you might see a lot of the hipo sticker is for years Branda was the only place to carrying them until recently and every other vendor in the world carry's the 289 hipo one .Another reason is because there is so much misinformation that has proliferated over the years. The small air cleaner decal engineering number starts with a C6 but I may replace it with a C7 one if some recent research proves out.
Bob, Where would I get the small air cleaner decal? Randy _________ 67 GT350 #0031 70 Boss 302 Grabber Green project
Randy ,I know it is a Osbourne produced decal but when looking in the NPD cataloge with no picture I couldn't tell from their discriptions if the right one was listed . I guess you will have to contact osbourne.
Well, I can peel off that Autolite decal, no problem. And, I see where I was looking on the magazine photo from back in the day. I always thought that the little mark in the back was a reflection off the chrome. Are you talking about the C7-9600-?? decal in the NPD catalog?
Bob, I just spoke to NPD. They have the C6AF-9600-AU decal and the C7ZF-9600-F decal. They are about half inch tall x two inches long with a black border. Says air cleaner part no. above the actual part number. Sound like the right one(s)? Randy ________ 67 GT350 #0031 70 Boss 302 Grabber Green project
Rod ,like I tried to explain earlier I could not tell from the NPD description which one if any in their catalog is right. Normally their description is very good. Sorry I can't be of more help.
