    Hi,
I am trying to get the horn functioning on my 67 GT 350. I pulled off the aluminum bezel and found a large washer and a spring underneath. I measure 12 volts between the inner ring and ground. What is the actual switching mechanism on the steering wheel? Any help is appreciated.

    JERRY,
The stainless steel contact rings are not conducting low voltage which is to be expected from stainless. You need either a relay or a reproduction wheel which comes with copper contacts. Both will work.

Install 12 volt relay, down by the voltage regulator, all the wires, (horn trigger, yellow alt wire for 12 volt feed, horn output, all are located at that position....)
Use the orig horn wiring as the relay trigger...

    Hi All,
Thanks for the replies. By the sounds of it, is it a poor design from the factory? I am keeping this car as original as possible. Any solutions without adding relays/wiring mods?

    Jerry,
For use of an original steering wheel, the relay is the best fix as long as the horn wires still have contact to the stainless rings. You can hide the relay and wires under the dash and knowone will ever know.
The original steering wheels are a pain. The horn problem is only one of the issues with it. You can't remove the wheel without using a big hammer on the steering shaft. Ever wonder about what that does to the steering box? I did and will only do that once. My original wheel looks great mounted on the wall in my office. You can use a wheel puller on the reproduction wheels and the horn contacts work without a relay.

Had the same problem on my 67 and have used a relay for
more than 25 years. I placed the relay in engine bay and
probably should move it to undrr the dash.
