hI, New to this so here goes I'm trying to detail the car but most books deal in the later cars, any ideas on colour codes for the rear springs front anti roll bar,or does any one have some books on the early cars showing detailing. Thanks Chris. P.S I'm in England.
Chris, the first thing I would do would be to order a SET of the assembly line build manuals available from any of the larger parts vender's . The one marked chassis will have color markings for tie rod ends etc. listed in the diagrams for V8 cars. It will also tell you what fasteners are to be used and their finish color. You will also need the book by AMK products that deciphers the Ford codes listed in the manuals .The AMK book is available from the same vender's. A reminder ask for the ASSEMBLY manuals and NOT the single SHOP manual. The rear leaf on the 66 GT350 was yellow sprayed dot and a green sprayed dot about 3 inch's in diameter. Yellow dot approx 3 or four inch's from lower spring plate towards the rear and then another 6 inch's towards the rear and a green dot. I hope this helps
Thanks Bob, I have a 64/5 -73 detailing guide by K A Helm does favour the later cars, would Tony branda have the manuals or best to try faxon books, the other thing is my car underside isn't painted red oxide, according to owner in 66 it never was it's a pinky /grey colour, seen a couple of early cars on internet there the same, any idea what colour it is? Chris.
Hi David, I'm in Surrey Wallington to be exact a stones throw from the old croydon airport, were abouts are you,What car do you have. Chris.
Chris, Branda should have all the manuals. As for as the underside goes, not all 1966 Mustangs had a red oxide undercarrage but the ones that came out of the San Jose plant did. The Shelby cars in 1966 started life in the San Jose plant. Maybe what you are looking at is the red oxide primer and because of light ,dirt or some other circumstance it looks different to you. The best of luck on your project.
Hi Bob Do you happen to know the exact title or a vendor that has this book? I've looked in a few places but have been unable to find it. thanks
AMK Products guide to ford fasteners. Virginia Mustangs 07 catalog pg 217 # LT 77 . I hope this helps.
To add a little to Bob's information... by 66 I found many more of the San Jose car's rear springs being marked with stripes rather than spray dots like the front springs. Only the small/"top" leaf get the color and it was applied sitting out of the car on the long leaf. I find a mix of dots and stripes in 65 at San Jose so a carry over could have either IMHO and in a rare case (like one of the era magazines showed) one of each The red oxide is not the typical Rustoleum flat red oxide primer but an epoxy primer that was darker and had a slight shine originally Might want to ask detail questions over in the 65-70 Shelby area of this forum.... just a bit further down the main page. ..... See you there Hope this helps
