    Vern alerted us today about a Hertz car on eBay

    SFM6S1254

    Dealer-presented...with the appropriate hyperbole. :rolleyes:

    As Vern said, " ...Survivor-car...with new paint?" :blink:

    Anyhow, as a Hertz guy, I would love to hear from the detail experts and lay out a critique of all the claimed "original, untouched" details.

    There are enough pics in the listing...what do you see that is applaudably correct on the car...and what looks wrong, or repro/not original.

    It just amazes me how the words, original, untouched, unrestored, correct, and the best of all, MATCHING NUMBERS get completely misused.
    This car is not ''all original".

    The all original part I understand, but what about it makes it a non-matching numbers car?

    You guys can have at it. My biggest pet peeve is when a Shelby engine is painted with Ford 6 cyl light blue instead of the correct Dark blue. There is so much wrong in the pictures that you can see if the same amount holds true to the rest of the car in areas you can not see, then the car has many problems let alone be considered a surviver car.This excercise looks like more typing then I care to do today. Have fun .

    I do believe that the brake warning decal could be either on the dash pad or under the radio.

    The more you look the more you see.. I'm not in favour of picking on someones pride and joy but once someone puts a car up on the "survivor" pedestal, they really put themselves out there and need to substantiate their claims.

    Looks as though one of the three blind mice painted the engine as well. Even a quick spray job in the bay can be done neatly.

    Neither am I...this is strictly an academic exercise, since, as you say, the car was presented as a grail-candidate. :rolleyes:
    Plus, it's a dealer, so no personal offense to an owner is meant.

    Almost every single fastener in the above engine shot picture is ether the wrong finish or the wrong type. Thats a lot right there. Wrong - fuel pump,fuel line, finish on w/p fuel line brkt ,cobbled up fuel filter to carb,thermostat housing ,finish on thermostat bypass hose ,decal on Radiatorfan shroud , Radiator, aircleaner element, aircleaner orientation on carb to connect with closed emission oil cap. I am stopping here and going to work on one of my cars were I have control on how a car is detailed. ha ha . Have fun my comrades in Shelby's.

    Everytime that description says "original" I want to puke. Just how many times can this word be typed, anyway. That must also be the original shifter handle and hanging "tree" air freshener. That price is insane as well.

    It may be matiching numbers....however, i was just saying that 'matching numbers' is one of those overused words that we always seem to hear.

    speaking of that, Please correct me if I am wrong, but I thought the inner aprons were left red oxide on the wheel side and only the engine compartment was shot black. Looks like the whole front was shot black since there is black overspray on both sides of the frame rails.

    Would be MUCH easier to list what is correct.

    As been mentioned before it might always be best to wait till after any auction is closed (not sure if this is the situation just a comment). We don't want to influence some ones sales or someone’s purchase

    Just an opinion… no reason to bash a particular car during an auction. Plenty original, national winning, survivor, “restored” out there ;) to keep everyone busy for a long time

    OK ... you’re incorrect. Like others you have seen too many "restored" cars where the builder copied another incorrect car or a car built at Dearborn.

    Just one of my pet peeves (making a 65-68 Shelby look like a Dearborn car underneath) Unfortunately clubs like MCA allow (though we car trying to correct) a choice of different finishes even though they were not built that way)

    San Jose = black wheel side and engine side of the inner fender panels though there can be little or no paint at the very upper lip in some cases or thin coverage on the leading or rear surfaces of the shock tower where it worn off quickly) The plan was to coat all these surfaces well with black followed by some sound deadener once the fender, suspension and everything else was installed

    My God!! I thought I was the only One with that thought in my head!! That is the Most annoying thing I ever have happen when I look under the hood of a Cool Ford that has been "Tampered" with. usually it is some Chevy mechanic does an engine job for his friend and goes to the Auto Parts store and grabs a can of "FORD BLUE".....:thumbdown

    I want to try to add a pic of my low milage car but Im not sure if I know how.
    *okay that was easy. The crayon marks are traced over the original, but other than that thats the way it was. This is SFM6S1773
