Need help with finding some obscure decals...admittedly, this is trivial...but I have been searching photographs in books and literature for several years, which includes contact with early Trans AM photographers and writers Dave Freidman, Carl Ludvigsen and Barry Tenin to gain information on the period correct front fender decals for a 68 TA Car as raced in early 1968. I am trying to source, and as a last stand, reproduce the decals as they are not believed to be available in the aftermarket for my 68 A sedan vintage road racer to make it more vintage correct appearing. I was wondering whether anyone had a side view shot in closer detail of the fender decals used on the early 68 Trans AM Mustangs, or any color photos of the Number 2 Shelby Team car used in the 24 Hours of Daytona race in 1968? From the history I can determine, these decals were only used in a few races in early 1968 and are unique to 1968. I did find another front view side view shot in the "Ford Total Performance" book by Alex Gabbard on page 112. The Pure and Autolite decals will be easier to reproduce. The photos on pages 66 and 67 in Freidman's book "Trans AM The Pony Car wars 1966-1972 has a good side profile shot of the car driven by Titus and Bucknum. You can clearly make out the detail of the Autolite and Pure decals in the literature, but there is a decal that is unintelligible. It turns out that it says "Lighting by Sylvania" I found a shot of this decal on the side of a '67 Ferrari. I cannot make out the text beneath the "SYLVANIA" logo, although the last letters are "GTE". I even contacted Sylvania's historian, and they don't have any information on this decal. Can anyone help unravel this mystery?

Hey there, I have been looking for an old T/A Decal for my 67. Have you had much luck? There is one I want that I saw on a 70 T/A mustang. It reads "FORD MOTORSPORT ASSOCIATION"

I emailed some decal dealers but no luck. I'll keep my eyes open for you as well

Here's my car. Just finished it

A SAAC member by the name of Fran often advertises in SAAC's "Snakebite Bulletin" selling vintage reprint decals. I know he has the Autolite ones.
See if SAAC has it on line, or, join SAAC unless somebody else has his phone number

Fran Kress is his name he has a web site. I don't have his number handy but if you go to club cobra he has a link from that site. The best of luck with your search.

If you can get a Photo of it straight on and get the Measurements (How Wide / How Tall) you can most likely get a Sign Graphics Company to make you a set for under $40.00 a Pair. As long as you dont make them to Re-Sale, you "should" be ok.

    Fran Kress's web sites:www.cobracouintry.com/kress and/or accessmotorsports.com

Ford motorsports stuff ; look on Ebay under "Mustang club" or "Mustang Clubs"
Understand that, the FMA ran from 1970 to what, 1972 or 1973 so, it might not belong on any 68' car. And, those stickers will be nearly 40 years and might not be too sticky anymore.

Thanks for the info. Yeah, I know it is not correct for my car. I just like the way it looks. Plus you really don't see that one too much

I think I have the decals you are looking for. 1967 Shelby Race Prepared decal. I also have the Autolite circle and the 68 decal which is different than the 67. I did alot of research some time back and have a file of original photos and info.

I don't need the 67 race prepared decal or the 68 Shelby Racing Co. decal. Just need the rhombus-shaped Pure Oil and Autolite, and the Lighting by Sylvania. If you had images of the decals, I can confirm they are the correct ones, or if I had your email address, I can send you photos for you to confirm they are correct.
