I seem to get a fair amount of people trying to provoke races with me on the way to my house in the country a few miles outside of town. So here is a few of my exploits. I have an 86 Dodge Daytona Turbo Z CS - 2.2L Chrysler I4 turbo with a modified log intake, FWD Performance 15psi recal, 2.5" catback exhaust with high-flow cat and Dynomax Super Turbo mufler, grainger-valve boost controller, 8.5mm Magnecore Race Wires, Ford Probe Intercooler, newer cylinder head with roller cam and followers, and a 3" cone filter. 1. Daytona vs 90 Camaro Z28 with TPI - leaving work one day this white Camaro darts in front of me and comes to a stop at the light. He starts revving it so I can get an earfull of his exhaust. The light turns green and we pass a slower car in the left lane at normal speed. I start to give it some gas to come up along side of him when he punches it. So I do likewise, my car goes to full boost immediately and I fly by him like he is sitting still, and then pull about 6 to 7 cars lengths ahead. I slow down to let him catch up and he comes up along side giving my car a serious look over and shaking his head in total astonishment. It was great - first win with 15psi after installing a g-valve. 2. Daytona vs 89 Mustang GT - coming home from town after picking up some food I notice a white Mustang GT with a big cowl hood sitting in the usual teenage cruise parking lot. I didn't think much of it until I got down the road a ways and noticed the Mustang following me. We get on the hwy but can't do anything because of too much traffic. I take my exit and he follows. So now I am thinking he wants to run. Sure enough as we both get on the surface road he punches it and starts to pass me o the left. So I punch it, hold him there, and start pulling away and take it up to about 85 mph when he flashes his head lights at me I guess acknowleding my win. I slow down to take my turn and he follows. We get up to the stop sign and he pulls up along side of me and ask what I was driving and what it had in it. He was dumb founded when I told him it was a 4 cylinder. Too bad it was too dark to see the expression on his face. Though I bet it would have been the sort of like this = It shouldn't be so much fun giving V8's an education through humiliation. Power by Dodge; Unleashed by Shelby!!!
One word. "nice" I can't get a race in Wisconsin, too many ricers. But I'd love to see the look on that Mustang's owner's, it probably was like this .face.
Never been a problem for me . . . just the other day a hopped up honda started taching it up at me. So i waited for the green and blasted it. At the next light the guy refuesd to make eye contact, and blasted out of the light when it turned green. Kids these days.
Have a read of a story, one of which there are thousands if you bother to do a search of news sources: http://www.courttv.com/trials/dragrace/background_ctv.html I really get torqued with stories of people who think the streets are for garbage like this. I hope myself or my family are never in the vicinity of any of these activities should something ever go wrong, and it usually doesn't take much, considering the lack of intelligence behind the steering wheel. Take it to the track, like most responsible adults do, there are plenty of small drag strips to run what you brung, in a controlled environment and safety equipment, car safety inspections, or road racing tracks for driving schools and open tracks. Grow up, tales of "humiliating V-8's" is pathetic and impresses no one. Just one man's opinion.
You guys are somewhat like me. I love speed. I have fast cars and have ridden all the superbikes. The difference is knowing when to pick your spots. Read this as NOT on public roads. It is one thing to juice your car or bike now and then when no ones around but to race is stupid. Think about it, one speeding ticket would be more then the cost of a open track event. I ran my car at SAAC 29 and had a fantastic time. No cops, kids, drunks or mini vans to worry about. Go to a track and see how fast you think you are. Speed is a thrill, stupidity kills.
