Re: Shelby and SAAC at Odds

Doesn't it seems just a little odd that whenever you hear anything about Shelby, it's always about him trying to screw someone else?

    - Shelby vs SAAC
    - Shelby vs Halicki and Eleanor
    - Shelby vs Unique Performance
    - Shelby vs Cobra replica manufacturers
    - Shelby vs Ford for 1984 20th anniversary Mustang "GT-350" models
    - Shelby using "leftover" 1964 427 SC frames

And then there's Shelby versus Brain Angliss, Shelby versus Stephen Becker, etc.

Why does he seem so intent on tarnishing his legacy? Greed seems to be the overriding factor. Which leads to another subject - the $200 autograph!

Thank you for bringing this up !
How many people have stood in line in the sweltering heat to pay for an autograph only to watch him or his wife put the money in their pocket when we all have been told a million times that 100% of the money goes to the kids !
Take a look at the recent research done on CARROLL SHELBYS CHILDRENS FOUNDATION and you will see that he has given very little money away.
    Something like 5%.
Go to www.guidestar.org log on and look it up .
Now Shelby wants to tear down SAAC the very organization that made him famous and marketable again.

You know Curt, those are big brave words from a man who has sold Carroll's personal stuff on eBay. You have just said in print that Cleo and Carroll put charity money in their own pockets. That for a fact is not true. every dollar that he gets for signatures goes to the charity. That has been the main charity money for years. Also, That article never said he did anything wrong, he is building an endowment fund, if you not sure what that is, maybe you use the web to learn something new instead of saying stupid stuff you know nothing about. What you said is libelous and I will forward your comments to Carroll and his lawyer. As said above, when you are in the news and a celebrity, people take pock shots.

And, Saac has done a good job keeping the registry and the vintage going, but it is the owners of these vehicles who have kept him going as well. SAAC did not make him famous and marketable again. His fame is why there was a SAAC to begin with, and marketable, he has done that with Ford.

You should be ashamed of yourself, you can't handle what is happening , so you spew garbage. This is just a cheap shot, I expected nothing more from you. When things get tough some rise to the occasion to try and work through it, you have chosen the gutter....

The Foundation issue was fully addressed at AutoWeek with Carroll's response on the need to sustain an enduring endowment so that the foundation can carry on after Carroll is gone and ther are no more cars or signatures around for fundraising. See the full article at:
    http"//www.autoweek.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=200770723007. 'nuff said.

Just picked up the Team Shelby magazine at a Safeway store here in Hawaii. Great read and photos.

I hope the SAAC - Shelby divorce issues can be resolved past egos and arrogance. There are so many great friendships that have been established over the past 30+ years as well as an incomprehensible amount of expertise on Shelby vehicles and events by so hundreds of volunteers. That is something that will never be duplicated by a law firm or a limited staff. We have had a number of Shelby related clubs besides SAAC like SOA (Shelby Owners Association). SAAC came from the Cobra Owners Association. SAAC national and regional club events have been a blast. And now with Team Shelby, having more fun with friends and Shelby vehicles is a bonus. How about no "we versus them". Instead let's make it just all of "us" nuts that enjoy the special man and his special cars.B)

Maybe, by why charge $200? When I got my first autograph it was free. Then the next one was $25.00. Now $200? Doesn't that kind of exclude the little man? How about the guy wanting to get his son interested in something like this - but not having $200 to throw away? I mean who determines these prices? Is it Shelby himself that now deems his autograph worth $200? Heck, why not just charge $2000 ? Would it not make a lot more people happy to have 50 people be able to get his signature at $20 than 5 at $200? Seems like greed has just overrun anything associated with him.

When I was at Tasca Carroll's signature was free for all but car parts. And Carroll Shelby sat outside in 100 some degree weather and signed for at least hour and half, and probably would have gone all day, but the heat was horrible and he is in his 80's. I think of all the signatures that he signed that day maybe only 5% were car parts the rest were not which meant that there was no cost.

Re: Shelby and SAAC at Odds

Carroll's signatures were free and random at SAAC and other automotive events like Monterey before there was a Foundation. When CSCF formed the signatures were $25 as a balance to raise funds and be affordable to fans. As the signature requests for multiple items increased, the fee increased and the number of items per person was limited. There was a time in the late 1990's when people wondered if there was anyone left who did not have his signature.

In addition the internet and eBay made it a concern that signatures were not just for fans but for profiteers. Carroll has been at Las Vegas and other events giving free signatures to fans on occaission. But remember, he is 84 and writers cramps are annoying. So enjoy the fact that he is willing to meet fans and handle signatures when he feels well enough to do so.

All autographs at the shows are free, only car parts are charged 200.00. this stops people from getting blank parts signed and sold on ebay. All pictures, posters. everything else is free when hye is signing at shows, I will check on the mail in items

If you go back up several Posts and start reading them again......... You should see it like I do: Signature is Free on Non-Auto-Parts AT the Events. The Prices you got from the CSCF Site are "If you send them the items for a Signature". I do believe that the Price qoated on that site also includes "Return Postage".

My comments about Carroll Shelby and his charity were inappropriate and untrue.
Emotions have run high concerning the SAAC / Shelby situation and my personal speculative opinions should be kept for private thoughts only

OK, that must have been a recent addition because I have sent them many items in the past and never had to add extra for postage. But an extra $15.00 is not Bad.

I'd have no problem paying it. Look at it this way, You are writing a Check to the Carroll Shelby Children's Foundation.......... Tax Write Off, Plus you have an investment.
