Hi,I am looking for smog parts for my '67 GT500.If anyone has any parts off a '67 big block Shelby or Mustang,I would be interested. Please sends pics along with description of condition and price to gmurphy@mountaincable.net .Thanks...Greg.
I am not the ultimate expert but the only "smog" part(s) on a 67 GT500 to my knowledge is the PCV valve. I have never seen an air pump on these cars, that only came about for 68. Carl
On cars delivered to Calif Thermactor pumpers were required starting in 66. For Shelbys 67 was the first year (beginning of the year for GT500's and mid April for GT350's) If you look at a decoder (try the registry) for the 67 VIN's you will see that the Vins even identify which cars had Thermactor systems original. In 67 there were at least two slightly different versions installed on the GT500's and a couple of slight variations in the handful of 67 GT350's with Thermactors Hope this helps
Carl, the CA GT500's and GT350's both had to have Thermactor or smog systems .The big block and small block smog parts did not interchange with each other. Both systems have different brackets for the smog pump / Alt, smog hoses, smog tubes , anti backfire valve, divertor valve somewhat similar to 68 systems but they are different in appearance and unique to that year. The 67 Shelby's VIN specifies if it came with thermactor or not.
Well you learn something new every day, for the sake of the person looking for one I hope thay were "borrowed" from another application as Shelby sometimes did. Or were they really specific to only those cars. Carl
The thermactor systems for 67 Shelby's were borrowed as you surmised from existing production CA Mustang engines . They had to have some of the Mustangs themactor brkt mountings and hose routings slightly modified bedause of the aluminum intakes for use on the 289 and 428 Shelby engines .
In addition to Bob's great response there were a couple of items Ford borrowed from non-Mustang applications to make the system pass the BAR (or what ever it was called in 67) approval process. One is the Thermactor air cleaner.
Looks like a later application.... the date is likely 77 rather than 67. The 66-67 version didn't look like this (more tubes, no fan....)
