now that i seem to have found the right goup of people to ask this ? to. my 67 gt500 has no evidence that it ever had a front fender mounted antenna. i was very careful to go over this area the only time the car was painted. it does have the standard "FORD" am radio. but it has a power antenna in the trunk on drivers side rear fender. Lever to operate it by the left drivers kick panel just below the dash and the air control levers. leads to the antenna in rear run under the drivers sill . the bezel that goes around the hole for the power antenna in the fender fits perfectly. has given no problems after the 38 yrs i have had the car and works pefectly. can anyone give me any feedback. is this a very clever and expert post build installation ?
Re: 67 radio antenna It's quite possible that the dealer installed the antenna on the rear quarter at the customer request. That would probably mean the car didn't sit at the dealer long, since the dealers usually prepped cars for showing as they came in. Or, if there's no sign of a pre-existing hole, it's possible that the fender has been replaced sometime in the past and the antenna relocated to the rear.
Re: 67 radio antenna this is car number 167 the original owner who i met and spent several months talking to in 69-70 told me he ordered a 66 gt 350 this is what showed up he did not " want" this car. but had waited so long to get one he did not cancel. he told me the car was delivered to Ruidoso NM which even now is a small town. where he was the police chief. funny thing about it l, i had this confirmed by someone this last fall while i was there for a car show with the car that the car had been in this area since winter of 67 but i cannot nor do i have documentation to support this. It did have a parking sticker date 67 season for the local horse race track which goes from may to sept. i dont know is the real answer.
Re: 67 radio antenna 97 registry lists # 167 as being sent to Sexton Ford Sales in Moline Il. This car was probably sorced from here to your dealer. Remember, not all Ford dealers were Shelby dealers. Antenas usualy came in the trunk and were dealer instaled. to avoid vandals. Yours could be a dealer substitute or a customer request.jmo
Re: 67 radio antenna Does your Marti Report mention anything about a radio. The Marti Report on my 67 #1317 doesn't and it had an AM radio and right front fender mounted antenna when I bought the car over 30 years ago. /Texas Swede
Re: 67 radio antenna My car was sold at Richardson Ford in Albuquerque, NM. It sounds just like yours, AM radio, ford power antenna on drivers side rear. My car is very clean with all original sheet metal and there is no sign of there ever being a whole/repair on the front fender. I have had it for over 20 years and that was the way it was when I bought it. I have taken alot of slack on this at shows but I refuse to change it. Larry
Re: 67 radio antenna Just wondering what the concours 67 experts think about the front fender vs. quarterpanel installation of the antennas on 67 Shelbys. If on the quarterpanel, is it always on the drivers side? Is either front or rear acceptable? Jon
Re: 67 radio antenna cant say i will ever change it no matter what. it looks "right"? but i have never had this car in any kind of judged event against other shelbys. sure not that many down here. the lines of the car are sure clean w/o it. so i am guessing this prior owner had it done. Wondering if he is still out there. he traded it for a new monte carlo. Mr Stoops if you are still out there watching let me know. I know you loved this car.
Re: 67 radio antenna There were a number of dealers that ordered their cars without radios and in some cases without optional wheels. The reason was that they could make more money handling those options through their parts departments. The rear quarter mounted antenna made a lot of sense due to the static caused by the fiberglass hoods. SAAC has production orders they got from Ford that will tell if the radio came with the car or not but if it didn't that would explain your antenna and lack of a patch on the front fender Dave
Re: 67 radio antenna Hi to all and esp. #167 what a cool number for a 67! This antenna question will only be solved by original documentation.Any dealer was able to install radios and antennas, and as mentioned in other posts it was most likely done on this car when it was new.If you ever take it apart look for the Ford part number on the antenna lead cable in the left rocker,it will have a date code as well and this would also clue you as to when it was installed.I really think the point loss at a car show would be the least of your worries--a static free radio and a neat conversation piece are more enjoyable!!With todays available resources it should not be too dificult to look up the history with the prior owner and dealership names.....have you tried digging?
Re: 67 radio antenna I purchased car #130 from the orig owner in 1982... It has the antenna mounted on the psgr rear quarter panel...The orig owner, told me he had it installed on the rear quarter panel, by the dealer, said it looked sporty!!! I am glad he did.... Mark
Re: 67 radio antenna Jon, My antenna location has always been on the right rear quarter. The original right fender showed no evidence of ever having an antenna hole on it. The Shelby production order shows that the car was ordered with a radio.
Re: 67 radio antenna 167 has never been apart. so i do no know the date code or have looked. the hood off---yes but that is it. it is coming out of its trailer this weekend since i have to go fetch my 68 bronco some 100 miles away and loaned out my flatbed trailer so let me dig tell me about the power unit in thr trunk...is there anything to look for on that piece.? and i have withheld a bit of info here. when i got the car it had a reverb. in the trunk. anyone seen any of these in shelbys?
Re: 67 radio antenna wrong the antenna wire goes under passenger side kick to trunk. across hinges above the cargo opening to trunk then to power unit. all the connections are still wrapped on a very brittle fabric tape. did not tear them open.
Re: 67 radio antenna Nope not that I recall on a Shelby (those guys typically just replaced the whole radio with a better one Seen a number of them on Mustangs and fastbacks Does the trap door have the speaker with the metal frame and grill mounted in there or did the owner put it in the quarter panel side trim? Always interesting to see where they put the reverb unit - often mounted in some strange places and there isn't allot of flat mounting areas in a fastback
Re: 67 radio antenna speakers are in the rear quarter panels-each side. not in door. the reverb was monuted on the drivers side rear fender piece of masonite that covers the fender well and the power ant. unit. notice i said was.. had a pull down switch on/off and what i guess you would call volume control under dash close to power ant. lever.
Re: 67 radio antenna Thanks.... The two speakers is a bit different from the "normal" installation (possible these were added later) since the reverb kit came with a single speaker (non-stereo system)
Re: 67 radio antenna it would be a wealth or knowledge if i could find the first owner. i am trying to but i just cant yet.
