Has anyone added the lower aluminum grill on a Shelby Gt offerd on the Shelby website? I am looking to put one on to complete the look and protect the lower half of the radiator. Just wondering how difficult it is to install and if people think they look good. THanks
I saw a set of round lights mounted center about 6 - 8 inches apart on the lower grill (a la Eleanor). It looked really cool and I've been thinking of adding them to my SGT. I think there is currently a non-functional pull out switch on the stock light switch that is not being used for anything, so that might be the ultimate connection point, however I'm sure the manual can tell us where the actual driving/fog light switch should go. I'm not sure, but I think the aluminum radiator looking product behind the lower grille is actually the A/C dryer, so the addition of lights in that space should not slow cooling of the engine. The new mustangs have such a classic body style that they really look like 67 2+2's re worked, and as such I think could use some additional front grille treatment(s). The company that added the round lights to the upper grille of the cobra (earlier post) did a good job, but I would have liked them further apart. On a side note- regarding styling with at least some functionality I had a couple of ideas; first, the hood pins need to be changed out for the newer versions because on a bumpy road those '07 pins just pop out and then scratch the hood. Also, I had an idea for the hood scoop that would not effect the originality; you know those LED lights you can buy and program to display scrolling messages?... I was thinking of having one stuck in the hood-scoop opening that says "Please move over". -A little time on my hands tonight- Mambo
That is correct. The 05/08 GT Mustangs and the 06/08 V6 Mustangs with the Pony Package has a Headlight Switch where the Knob pulls out to activate the Fog Lights. My 05 model V6 (no Fog Lights) has a regular Headlight Switch (knob does NOT pull out). David.
Easy to install. Good option for some protection and fills the open hole. I had the Black Powder coated grilles install at SAI and opted out of the driving light option. I did have the functional front and rear brake cooling ducts installed though.
I had SAI put the grill and lights on my SGT. I am very happy with the look and I think it finishes off the front end. It come with the holes for the brake ducts, which I plan on installing in Feb when the come available.
WoW!! That is one bad as*&^ looking SGT. OK How much, how long and exactly what were the options if you don't mind? Also, what are the results? Your comments would be much appreciated as I would like to send mine to SAI, but have not had the time to do the research and it looks like you have already done the legwork. Thanks, Mambo
When I saw those Modern Magnum 500 Wheels in the Magazine Ad, I did not like them, but seeing them on your Car really helps. Very cool. It would be cooler if the Rear Wheels would also fit the Front so they would match. David.
Re: WoW!! Here is the list of mods. Just completed the steering wheel install and will post a seperate thread. Some of the mods are in process over the winter but all will be completed prior to spring. Thank you for the compliment. The fronts are 20x9 and rears are 20x10's other than that they are exact.
Yes, the interior of the hood needed to be modified for clearance due to the height of the SC case and throttle body being repositioned.
wow, wow, wow She's BEAUTIFUL. Dare I say much better looking than the GT500! And at about the same cost. Do you have more pics, particularly the engine bay and interior? Also, can you advise the process of having this done? For example, who do I contact at SIA to schedule the work. You mentioned you are in the NE, where, and did you drive the car to SAI in Vegas, or ship it. I would love to drive up there with my boy (only 8 yrs old and already a Shelby fan)! Plus, dad could go to the casinos! I Have a 5.0 (92), a 911 Targa Carrera (86) a Torino GT conv. (71) and the 07SGT in black as is yours, and without a doubt your car is the coolest I've seen in a long time!!! Poised for speed and appreciation!! A true SHELBY! Thanks Mambo
Re: wow, wow, wow Mambo, The process for a car at SAI waiting to be converted to a Shelby and then to the Mod Shop is different than one already purchased and delivered to the customer. The process when at SAI is to have the dealer be the main contact person to the Mod Shop. The car must be paid for in full prior to work being completed. The reason for this is the deal made between Shelby and Ford. Plus any modifications to engine, suspension etc. becomes a Shelby (Ford Racing) Warranty issue in the future. There was an additional $500 charge for delivery directly to your home when the car was finished. You could also opt for the Shelby Museum delivery for an additional charge and drive your car from the location at the time it was finished. That is also an additional $500 charge and well worth the trip. You would get some of the most personalized, attentive attention on delivery and a special certificate for the delivery along with the tour and some "very special" goodies. For new owners planning on modifiying their 08's I strongly recommend the Museum delivery. It is VERY special. Now the process for a sold unit, from what I understand, that the customer needs to make arrangements with the mod shop and orginize details through them. Some dealers are more connected to SAI than others and know the system. Others need to find there way around. I suggest you contat Bud Mahoney directly at the mod shop. Here is his contact information budm@shelbyautos.com or call him direct at 702-448-7878. He can walk you through the process. There may be a delay in scheduling due to the current work load in finishing up the few remaining 07's left and the 08's waiting but he can fill you in. You would be responsible for getting the car back to them. I hope this helps you. Also, log on to the Shelby Performance Parts web site to get an idea on what options you can choose. It's like being in a candy store and it can add up quick but it will give you an idea on what can and cannot be added to your list. Here is the link to the site. http://www.shelbyperformanceparts.com/ If you look in the upper left hand of the site you will see the download icon for the new catalog. I suggest you download and save it for your reference and additional items that will be released in the spring of 08. Some really cool stuff not shown on the site yet. good luck and keep us posted.
Great info Thanks so much for the info and the contact. I will be checking my piggy bank and contacting Bud. The car looks really great! Good luck holding out for the winter! Mambo
Re: Great info Thank you for the compliment Mambo. Bud is a great guy and can walk you through the process. I will get some winter relief. The car is leaving on Jan. 5, 08 back to LA for the caravan of cars to Vegas for Mr. Shelby's Birthday Bash Party. I can't wait but I have a great deal of detailing to get done! Roger #5322
I came here looking for an answer to this very same question by the OP. I have one of these under the tree..at least im pretty sure..i already took it outside when the wife wasnt home and fitted the wrapped package to the space and its right! so i will let you know in just a few weeks both how easy/hard the install and i will post images of the install and the end result. Merry Christmas!
I look forward to some pics especially since our cars are the same color(s). I have been amature racing my SGT and the bugs in TX have put some nice dents in the dryer fins, so I'm a little late with the lower grill. Best of luck Mambo1960
well, mines gone into the shop for some paint warranty work...and new stripes.. so i dont think im gonna have it on Christmas...nuthing like presents you cant play with!!
Just bought a pair of SGTH convertible brake duct and fog lite combination grills. I only got the grills, will add brake ducts for open track and fog lites when I find something I like that fits. I plan to cut down a 65 Mustang grill and make one for the center part of the opening. It almost matches the mesh in the SGTH combos. Gotta keep it stock for SCCA F/S solo.
