    Re: What are your favorites???

    Hello,

Yes, I agree with you that Dick Smith's car was the winningest 427 Cobra.

I do not have the race record for CSX 2473 to reference. But here is some info quoted from the RM Auctions sales info from Monterrey in 2006, "The 1964 Shelby Cobra 289 Competition Roadster, chassis CSX 2473, the ‘Winningest Cobra in History". This car was also featured on the cover and in an extensive article within the past couple of years in Vintage Motorsport magazine. Its extensive racing record was described there as being the "Winningest Cobra in History".

Maybe it is best to say that CSX 3035 was the winningest 427 Cobra and CSX 2473 was the winningest 289 Cobra...........

    Best regards,
    Eric

I don't have any records in front of me, and I'm definitely not an expert, just a fan of the cars and the vintage races. I DO know for certain, that Mr. Smith believed his car was the winningest Cobra, because when he raced it on the vintage circuit he had a history board he would post by it in the Paddock area that said as much. That's not to say he may have been mistaken, or that the term "winningest" may be up to interpretation. Take it for what you will. I hope whoever ends up with that car continues to run it in honor of his memory and the history of the car.

BTW, 67GT500#2100, you and I are the only ones who picked CSX2287 over CSX2299. I think there's something to be said for it being the only body made stateside, and the "prototype".

    Jerry,

Maybe you should put some serial numbers after each of your favorites. ;)

    Jerry,

We've got to get you stateside!!! At the Monterey Historics at Laguna Seca in 2003 when Ford was the honored Marque, there were 4 of them (5R098, 5R101, 5R103 and 5R528) on the track at once!

    Jerry,

The dollar is real soft against the euro right now. This might be the right time to plan that trip. SAAC-33 is in New Jersey. Perfect opportunity to get up close and personal with an R-car.
