It also appears to have the all steel hood.

It's a good thing you talked to the owner

If I was the owner and found some guy under my car's hood,
he would have some 'splaining to do.
I agree there is such a thing as giving out too much info--could start a stampede to the guy's door.
If the question is: is the car real, then looks like you got it answered.
I found when I used to buy exotic cars that the best thing to do was
get the owner's name , get a cashier's check for what you think it's worth
and then knock on his door. Get him to call the bank to verify the check's real and when it is, you can bet his wife will get on him to take the money (visions of a new kitchen dancing in her head). Then be prepared to yank it out of there licketey split with a tow truck. But it's no use talking until
you have a check to show as talk is cheap.

There are a LOT of stories like this one. I was involved in a search for a Hertz car on an Indian reservation. It's a long story that involves a guy who knew about the car but wouldn't tell anyone where it was. (He tried but couldn't get it and he refused to tell anyone else where it was). The car had been sitting so long with the hood up that a tree grew up through the engine compartment. The guy who finally acquired the car (at great personal risk to himself) had to use a chain saw to cut the tree down before the car could be moved.

It would be a hoot to know the history of this vehicle.

It's a shame the owner didn't make more of an effort to preserve the car, at least cover it or put it in decent storage.

It does warm the heart to know that cars like this are still stashed around the country.

Thanks for making us part of your discovery.

At least the car being spoken of was kept in the dry AZ atmosphere. You can still find them, even like this one!! [IMG]
This car was originally black for those of you who were looking to see the blackout behind the scoops! Discussed in another blog !!

    Steve,

In another thread factory steel wheels are being discussed for early 65 cars. A photo was posted showing cuts in the wheel centers where they mate with the wheel. Kind of looks like the steel wheels on this car match what they were saying is correct for an early 65.

Guys: I know exactly where this car is and passed on the numbers to the club.

I have all the contact information and the guy is adament that he doesn't want to sell it.

I've talked to him in person he wants to keep it.

I offered him quite a bit and he just said "no!"

Are you saying this car pictured above is still in the same place like pictured? I'm confused, I just saw pictures of it under restoration. I think the new owner said something about a farmer having mentioned someone abandoned it many years ago and the new owner was looking for original parts for it. Check out this link

Steve: Yes, the red car pictured I owned and sold it about 10 months ago.

I'm not sure if it's under restoration but I'm sure it will at sometime.

It's in New York and I know the owner well.

    I bought it in Missouri.

You didn't look at the link. He posted pictures of it under restoration and mentioned it was factory red. I think it was black from the photo showing the cowl area but I can be wrong!!

    Steve: You might be right.

It was a factory Hertz and perhaps the guy I sold it to already sold it to Hoffman.

    That is the car though.
I have photo's of the car from a year ago that were taken and it's the same.

I'm guessing Mr. New York sold it.

Looks better now knowing it will be solid metal and no rust!! Hoffman is looking for a hipo harmonic balancer if you have one. That is all he needs for the motor he has for it. A project definately.

It appears two different red Mustangs are

being talked about. The one on the first page is a Shelby, I am unsure about the second red Mustang referenced, which is in much worse condition.

Does anyone, especially you long time early Shelby owners, have any idea how many 1965 - 1970 Shelby Mustangs, which have not been totally wrecked/destroyed, are still out there somewhere, unaccounted for? Just curious if there are still any "barn-finds that have yet to be discovered." I suppose it would be pretty difficult to tell, as some have been entered on the Shelby registry and possibly some may have never been registered.

Just wondered if anyone had some sort of idea. Might give some of us late comers some hope of ever finding one.

    Thanks.

Looking at those pictures I have to ask... it is a clone or a rebody? Maybe I missed it being discussed somewhere else in this thread

Jeff: I sold the car to a guy in NY state and he must have sold it to Hoffman.

It's neither a clone or rebody or I would have heard back from someone.

The AZ car is very nice and just sitting there near a guys house.

He kinda chased me out of his yard.

Re: It appears two different red Mustangs are

I can tell you I know of over twenty Shelby's that are hidden away not accounted for and another six sitting outside not accounted for so YES!!!!! there are plenty of great finds still out there OH !! and the best part is all those cars are within 1 hour driving time from my house in any one given direction.
I would bet that half the people on this site know of at least 1 car not accounted for.
So Keep the dream alive !!!!!!!! :laf: There are still plenty of stories to be told

Just noticed a Shelby specific or two missing after repairs?

The addition of the resto-m*d parts added to the confusion

Been there ... done that ;)

Thanks for your reply - This thread has already

been treadjacked so we might as well continue on.

I have been in the muscle car game for a long time - though GM for the most part.

One pearl of wisdom I would offer is that it is best to keep your "Shelby locate's" to yourself, especially if you are entertaining the notion of acquiring the car yourself. A while back I told a "friend" about a 1983 15th Anniversary H/O that I knew about, where it was located and who owned it etc. I had owned a 1984 H/O and this person bought it from the dealer I traded the 1984 in to, only to sell it, trade it off and buy it again from a second dealer. Then he sold the 1984 again, and some kid ended up with it and just tortured it (his first car). The next thing I knew, not long after I told this person about the 1983 15th Anniversary H/O, the SOB bought it without even giving me the courtesy of asking me if I wanted it or telling me after he bought it. I'll never make that mistake again. When it comes to collector cars, be careful who you trust.

I have noticed comments about others claiming to know where the first car, the Shelby GT350, apparently is located in AZ, since the person who started this thread brought it up.
