Wanted: any information on the Mustangs or Shelby’s that were displayed @ the 1965 Chicago Auto show. Perhaps you have a show program or took pictures? Maybe you worked for or knew someone at the show? Also looking for anyone who has current info on any ex-employees or ANYONE who worked for Jack Loftus Ford (Hindsdale IL, just outside of Chicago)
Anyone out there work for TWA at some time? (like 1965???) Need insight on how cars were sent via Air (Ten 65 GT 350’s were sent that way, I know why 9 of them were, just need more info to complete the puzzle)
Anyone work at Chicago O’Hare during that time?
Also looking for an original 65 GT 350 owners manual, no a repop will not do! Any Loftus lit as well
    Sure it seems like a lot…but if I don’t ask…….:guitar:
Any and all information is appreciated.

    Mike

As big as the Chicago auto show was, there might have been only one 65 Shelby on display, and No-Way you could sit in it. There was one year I recall a Ford GT 40 on display, around that time frame.
Look up the Jack Loftus Ford post from a couple of weeks ago.

I believe that if a 65 GT 350 was there then that car was # 17 Why?

1- only a handful of cars were completed at that time
2- of the handful, I know where the majority of the others were at that time
3- SFM 5 017 was shipped to Chicago O'Hare 2 days before the show (this info will be in the next registry, not in the 97 edition)
4-Why send a car via plane when rail would do? - Someone needed it right away - either a show car or someone with deep pockets.

Any help is appreciated in this endeavor.

I know of a 289 Cobra that was shipped via air, when I friend bought the car, 1990 or so I think it had less then 20k on the car, the original motor was replaced with a 68 302 4v that was ordered through Holman & Moody. I ended up with the motor (almost no mileage on that). The story was that he jumped in the car and got about 2 blocks before the hipo froze up because they drained all the fluids before they shipped the car.

My car was shipped TWA to Baltimore from LAX Mar 65 showing grand total shipping cost $336.26 Weight 2782 lbs. You can't get in the airport for that these days!

    Override- thanks for the link.

Vern, I have been in contact with them, the Show Historian job is a part time gig, so I am waiting on his email back.

I found a author named James Flammang who (with Mitchell Frumkin) wrote a book about the show and have emailed him over the weekend as well.

After leaving messages for just about EVERYONE with the last name Loftus in that area over the last month, I got a call from Jack himself a hour or so ago.
Super nice guy, He intends to look though what he has in storage, etc, to see if he can help.

Any help on the other parts of my request appreciated.

Mike H - thanks for that link.

I don't know exactly where - I called so many Loftus' that I have to go back to my list and check the called ID log.
