Cobra - which would have paperwork pre 1973-75? Also considering kit cars

    Greetings from Denmark

I have been interested in the US car hobby for more than 25 years, but up until now it has been traditional musclecars and Mustangs. Lately my interest for the Cobra has grown, and I´m now considering finding a car that suits the rules and regulations of my country.

The reason why this is important is because we in Denmark have very strict regulations when it comes to importing and registering vintage cars, especially if they are not factory originals.

I really like the wide body Cobra, but I also have to be realistic when looking at my bank account :) so getting that original Shelby Cobra is not realistic at the time.

What I could manage was a nicely built kitcar or whatever they are called. But, if it is ever going to be possible to get that this to pass inspection here, then it would need to have been built and registrered more than 35 years ago. This means that in the spring of 2008, I would be able to legally import and register a car that was built / and had the appropriate title/paperwork from 1973 or earlier.

My question is then - would there be any such cars out there fitting my formal needs - if my spending limit for this car is around 50K? From reading other posts it seems that there a quite a number of "continuation" cars or clones with old paperwork. What would the pricerange be for those?

As you can see, I´m not looking for an original Shelby Cobra, but rather finding a car that can give me the same driving experience.

    Thank you
    Anders

Besides a title that is pre 73 what other paperwork would you need?

If following all rules and regulations, the car has to be manufactured pre 73. I have seen several kit cars for sale where seller has said that the car was titled as a 1965 Cobra, but that the actual car was produced much later.

I guess that what will matter to the inspection authorities here is the first date of registration. If that is pre 73, then I think it would work.

    Thank you

Maybe I should ask the question differently!

Are there any known clone/replica companies that built "Cobra" cars pre 1973?

If not, when did the first ones show up, and which company was that?

    Thanks
    Anders
