Tilt-away Relay

    Best of the season to you all.

    I'm wondering if any of you can help me out, I've been trying for years to locate a proper tilt steering relay for my 68 but have been unsuccessful. The closest I came in getting one was when I was in touch with a company on the east coast (they were selling rebuilt tilt columns units). Most of the relays he had were toast, any good one's were to go on what was being sold. Does anyone reproduce them? If not, what is every body using to keep their tilt system working?

    Any help would be appreciated.

    I am pretty sure the 1969 tilt relay is the same as well. I am not smart enough to know if other relays will work (like a thunderbird or conv top)?

    Have you tested your relay? Remove the relay from the bracket, hold the relay on a neg 12v battery post and attach a wire to the number "1" terminal on the relay, touch the wire to the pos terminal on the battery and release the lead. You should hear one click. If it clicks the relay should be good.

    Thanks to you both for your replies. I will keep an eye out on Ebay TLEA. Coralsnake, unfortunately I don't even have one to test. The car was missing the relay however, the bracket, motor/cable and vacuum assembly was still in place. In talking to an electrical friend of mine, he said he could probably find an aftermarket Bosch relay but I would much prefer to have an original type.

    By the way Coralsnake, you have a great web site. I visit it on a regular basis, the replacement wiring looks awsome.

    Here is what you need. Thought i would give pic so when you are looking you would know what box looks like .There is a part number on the relay itself which is C8ZA 3E553A. The box has a different part number. I cant remember for sure but i think this relay is very similar to the horn relay on early 70's f150.

    Thanks for the photos. I see it has a mounting tab on the relay to fasten it to the bracket. I've never seen one to tell you the truth so a photo of one is a bonus if ever run across one, I'll copy the part number down too.
