2007 Shelby gt California edtion

Actually it is only in 2008 they made these. I have read that approx 213 - 219 cars were produced. They are all Grabber Orange with silver rocker & Le Mans stripes
They could be had with NAV system. Apart from that, 2007 style hood pins, Carroll Shelby signature on sun visor and small differences on the sill paltes and dash plaque, I don´t think there´s much difference.

I bought mine because I think the color is really cool and because it won´t be a car you see one every street corner I would be very surprised if these cars will be come worth anything else than any other used car ......

 

The 2007 Northern California edition is the same as any other Shelby GT except it comes standard with the guage pod mounted on the dash. It is way too early to speculate whether it will add any collectibility to the car down the road

I thought this special Shelby only came in Graber Orange?

Our local dealer has 3 Black ones and 2 whites in stock right now. All California Editions. They have the guage pods on the dash and the serial numbers are all in the 5000's.

 

ID pay more....but not 3 grand more.....for a guage package?

Things that make you want to go, "Huhhhhhh????"

This thread really got me thinking, and at the risk up causing an opinion fire storm, I'll say I'm sure it's only me and that I have the whole thing wrong, but . . .

When I just logged in tonight the pop-up said, "It appears you haven't posted for a few weeks ...," and interestingly, I realized it was about the time I talked to a dealer in CA about the orange Calif GT a month or more ago that I hit the wall in what started as a simple (or so I thought) quest to buy a GT-H after renting one last summer.

Long story short, around every corner was another Mustang variation, including a host of factory & Shelby "special editions" such as those for northern CA, southern CA, Hertz, etc. The nuances, fluctuating prices and speculation became overwhelming, and when that Calif dealer casually said they were charging "at least" $10,000 over MSRP with the only diff being the color of yet another limited edition, but the same car as the white or black GT's that have sat on lots around the country for a year, I just flamed out. Suddenly it wasn't as much fun looking & learning as it had been because something in the back of my mind was bothering me, I just wasn't sure what it was.

This all got me wondering where the line is between actual collectibility worthy of an investment and marketed collectibility by simply changing colors and making so few the price is purposely driven up, at least for those willing to pay to have something others can't. I had to take a short break from my car quest because, strangely, every time I started up again I couldn't get thoughts of Beanie Babies, Santa Bears and Franklin Mint NASCAR plates out of my mind.

By the way, somewhere in the basement I still have a purple limited edition "Princess" Beanie Baby I entered a contest to get, and won . . . the prize being the right to buy one for $100, which I readily did so my 7 year old daughter could have this limited edition very collectible keepsake which was sure to increase in value; after all, everyone wanted one and there were only a limited number made. I really bought it, but had forgotten about it until just now. For the hell of it I just looked on E-bay and there's one for 99 cents or you can get the 3 bear Milennium set in mint condition for $3.99.

There's a lesson in here somewhere.

NMLawProf, I agree with you......the Dealers take all the FUN out of buying a new Car. The local Dodge Dealer here in Tallahassee just built a huge new Building and to pay for it "EVERY" new Car, Truck, SUV, Van & Cross Over has a $2,499.00 ADP added to it. As for the Collecability of the New Shelbys........ Give it 30 Years and see what happens. You never know, it might suprise you.

Wow on the markup for their bldg; unreal. I guess the regular markup, etc, isn't enough to make ends meet these days, we all have to tighten our belts, lol. By the way, I've found some exceptional dealers along the way. One half the US&A away on the east coast, but was so impressive I wrote Ford corporate. I wonder if my Princess Diana Beanie has any trade-in equity?

 

I dont really think that you should buy a New Shelby with the hope that it will be worth a million bucks one day. Buy one because they are a BadAss car. We have a 07 Shelby GT and a 08 GT500. My thought about these cars is this...........In 10 to 20 years these are both still going to be Bad SOB's.

 

There are two different California editions. Near the end of the 2007 production run, a special edition for the Northern California region was made. This edition has the dash mounted guage package. At the beginning of the 2008 production, a special edition for the Southern California region was made. This edition was available in Grabber Orange only.

Well put. None of these cars will be a good investment. Take the same money and put it into a good mutual fund and you will do much better.

The "collectible" versions might be worth as much as people pay for them in fifteen or twenty years . . . if they are never driven between now and then.
