I am trying to find any and all information on this car.....I was told it was destroyed but turned up in an Oklahoma barn where the owner said it had been sitting for 20 to 30 years. Full of rust and pretty bad shape. Here is a link to work being done http://www.shelbyforums.com/gallery/browseimages.php?c=500&userid=3389 Thanks Kerry
Believe Tango sold this car awhile back. At least the "before" car. Are your images all of the same car? Looks like dash went from standard radio cut out in the before shot to a dash that has double drilled knob holes in the after shot. Strange on a car getting attention to detail. Maybe I see it wrong wrong in the pictures. Might check for evidence of tach mount. Also looks like they must have gone into the cowl and the original export brace reinforcment was removed, at least for now. I think I can make it out in a before shot. Can't figure out what that green is doing around the pass side cowl drain area in an old picture..might be algae but there's also black paint in there.. That paint area usually tells the truth on orignal color... I dont believe Tango would miss a rebody though. You been chasing this car for years or something?
When the radio was removed the dash appeared to have the holes elongated for some reason. The export brace support is there and export brace is correct. I uploaded pics of the export brace and support. Any info is greatly appreciated Original color was candyapple red both by looking at the body as well as warranty tag showed it as red. Dash shows holes where tach was mounted and choke cable for carb was intact. Car has correct steering arm and is disc brake car and has proper 2 1/2 inch rear brakes and proper 9 inch rear end also Thank you Kerry
I looked at the before and after pictures. Are there interior woodgrain GT bezels on the before pics, and standard black bezels on the after pics? These look like different cars to me.
Man I thought this car was originally black. Looking at the photos showing the area behind the fenders and cowl looked originally black. Someone went to a lot of trouble to change a red car to black then let it set out and get this bad before someone like you came to the rescue. Great to see someone care this deep to bring back a great car. Hope you find a balancer you need, they show up from time to time on ebay. It may be with another motor but that may be the best way to buy certain items. Not to get too personal but the I have a motor that came from a 66 Shelby back in the 70's starting with Ford serial number 6R09K140XXX. The guy I got it from said it came from a Hertz car but did'nt know the Shelby #. Is your car in this range?
I have the motor as you can see from the pics complete with a Paxton but the dampner wasn't to be found anywhere around the area/car/motor. If it had been any other car it should have been crushed or left to return to the earth, and it is hard to find NOS/Original Ford parts. Lots of aftermarket but hard to find correct parts. The entire front end had to be completely redone. Was this the motor on e-BAY a couple of months ago? Thank you Kerry
For some reason I had originally thought you were looking to buy this car and had pictures of work underway from the seller. I would not have been doing the prebuy critical review if I knew you already had it. It is good to see someone with balls enough to tackle a car like this. Years ago a local 66 Shelby was said to be destroyed and it turned up later just like it had always been, same warts and all. Plus people get mixed up on numbers after years go by.
No thank you for all the replys I really appreciate it. I am just trying to find out what I can about the car SAAC doesn't have any history on the car other than color and fact that it is/was a Hertz car had Magnum chrome rims on it and was an automatic. The car diasppeared off the face of the earth and as I was told the by the "farmer" and his son is that his father said the car was left after it was involved in an accident 20 to 30 years ago..." don't member what paw said, but has been here as long as I member". I guess what was a wrecked Shelby worth in say 1977 or so. Not very much I figgure. The engine number match the vin number which is 6R09K112xxx I did find an invoice in the car from a Las Vegas Ford dealer for a front brake job to and address somewhere in Mass. Again I thank you for all your questions and help. The car will not go back as an automatic as I am going to install a T5 behind the Paxton powered 289. The engine was mostly disassembled and appeared to be missing the heads and the Paxton was in a box in the trunk along with the autolite HIPO carb which I understand is what was used with the Paxton. The heads are aftermarket AFR aluminum heads which should really make it breath well. The rear end is also non standard as it has 4:11 gears in it instead of the 3:89 it is POSI. Again my thanks to all who have responded Kerry
