An interesting and hard to find 65/66 part

I suppose it was on a Mustang that did not have any Deluxe Interior option?

 

The Clutch Pedal Pad is ment for the Chrome Trim Ring and the Brake Pedal Pad is NOT.

Jim, the gas pedal is the same way . The pedal dosn't have a edge around it for a trim ring. You can barely see it in the picture you posted. I will try and post a larger picture of the gas pedal.

 

Just to help out (from a very low mileage car) with the correct clutch pedal also

 

Didn't Ford change over to the ones with indentation in late 65 after
the De Luxe interior was introduced. Only depleted existing stock and
after that all cars got the ones with indentation?

Compare the picture that Jeff posted of the early pedals and the gas pedal in the picture of the Shelby . The gas pedals are different. Yours has a C4 engineering number and is the first generation the other is the next generation . It has a slight ridge around the perimeter but still without the trim ring .

The picture is not from a Shelby but a San Jose built Mustang with Blue interior. So yes the blue heel and toe pad is correct and original for a 66 Mustang (or the one 66 Shelby with blue interior) with blue carpet.

 

Is there anything special about the Mustang floor mat in those last few pictures? Or is it just a nice after-market piece?

Steve, The pony mats shown would have been availible at the Ford dealer from the service / parts counter. They are availible reproduction from multiple suppliers and in multiple colors. Rick

 

Just to clarify they didn't come with the cars from the factory but as was posted available over the counter. It used to be you could only tell the repro from the original by the tits on the bottom side which were absent from the repro. Now I think they are reproduced with the tits on the bottom so they will not slid on the carpet.They are available in a variety of colors and are a nice vintage looking assessory.

 

Thanks Jeff. I kinda figured it wasn't from a Shelby. So my expanded question is did some cars get a side toe pad and some not? When Ed Meyer looked at my 1970 GT350 convertible which had 100% original interior except for carpet (which I replaced in 1990) he told me to cut the side toe pad out/off the bottom pad to make it look original. So from 1965-1970 what carpet had side toe pads and what didn't. Without double checking it seems to me there is only 1 style of carpet(other that the type of fabric) for most years with the exception of the Mach1 carpet. Gary

You have the

1- early carpet with heel pad and no toe pad. This version had the vinyl sill covers and the carpet only traveled to the base of the rocker panels on both sides (edges all sewn to finish them)

2- 65 (after the version above ran out) with heel pad and toe pad and the carpet that went up to the top of the rocker panel and under the sill plate. Used on both standard and deluxe interiors

3- 69-70 carpet used on non-Mach I interiors with heel pad only and with the forward edge of the rear section of carpet with the vinyl edge.

4- 69 Mach I carpet with the long front carpet heel pad and rear seat inserts as well. Not used on all Mach I's but listed as part of the package Don't believe anyone is reproducing this carpet correctly - currently.

5- 70 Mach I carpet with the long front carpet heel pad (inserts are styled differently than 69) and rear seat inserts as well. Not used on all Mach I's but listed as part of the package Don't believe anyone is reproducing this carpet correctly - currently.

With all that being said though carpets are listing in catalogs in one group many of the shops will identify the correct carpet (or as close as they sell) when you identify your specific car.
