My blue car, 6S1185, currently has LeMans stripes, but when I e-mailed Howard Pardee his notes indicated that a previous owner had reported it came w/o them. I read in the 87 registry that all colored (non-black) 66 GT350H cars were most likely shipped w/o the LeMans stripes, but I seem to recall this being amended in the 97 registry ( I don't have my copy with me to confirm). What is the prevailing thoughts on this topic? Any other GT350H owners out there with colored cars around 1185 that know for sure how theirs came? I will try and contact previous owners, but thought some of you may have already explored this topic. Thanks, Lee
Hi to Lee ! I had a look in the 97 registry... 4 cars that are close to yours all went to the same dealership, and none of them mention anything about stripes, the only way to prove it is to look for former owners as you mentioned,or if the dealership is still around, maybe they have some pictures or paperwork. 1185 02/28/66 1165 & 1166 03/04/66 1171 03/16/66 all cars were blue and all went to J.D. Ball Ford in Miami-note-all within less than 30 days! This is cool. Please realize that this is the rareist color for a 1966 Shelby and in my opinion...one of the best looking-with or without stripes. The only Hertz cars I have seen or worked on with original paint are both black, and both had stripes.Best wishes for a great New Year and good luck with your investigation.
