1966 GT350 Air Filter Chrome Lid...

    Are there any markings on the chrome lid on an original?

    Under the wingnut area are two small indentions 180 degrees apart.

    Are the two small indentations for the wingnut to "lock" into?

    Yes. If you have the original FORD nut it has an upset on the bottom that sets in one of the indentions when it was snugged down. A better idea is to put a matching diameter thin rubber washer between the wingnut and chrome lid, use weatherstip adhesive to glue it to the flange on the nut. It prevents scratching the lid and scrapinng the chrome off. Later Ford wingnuts adopted this feature.
