I had called on that Sapphire Blue '66 several months ago (it's listed elsewhere). I about fell over when I heard the price  . $275K and "reserve not met"??? Based on the "buy it now", I think he's got it even higher than when I called and the market seems to still be sliding a little... I'm pretty sure it was $280K when I called (followed shortly by "click.... buzzzz"). I understand they're only original once, but... wow! It's tough to put a value on cars like that since there are so few out there, but my "not an expert" opinion is it's pretty high. There are a half dozen '65's that I know of out there for sale right now for considerably less than that.

Boy, I'd sure love to have it though. I probably wouldn't do a thing to it except take off that Terlingua sticker, but that's just me. If you're going to pay a premium for originality, I wouldn't touch what's there. I'd be interested to see if Bob or Jeff chime in on anything that isn't original or correct.

Sorry to hijack the thread for something so trivial, but the gearknob in the blue car is very similar the the one in my '67 (except the decal on mine is a gold disc like the decal in the center of the steering wheel).

I'm pretty sure it's not factory, but was this a popular aftermarket piece back in the day?

They sure seem like nice cars. Personally the Hertz car is a bit overdone for my taste. If I was seriously selling those cars, especially for the amounts that are listed, I would take take better (clearer) pictures of more important areas than are shown.

Ya, the auctions really arent well done at all and sometimes that can make all the difference in the world.

Yes the shift knob is an aftermarket piece from the era.

The Blue car is interesting ... would be nice to see in person. The red one has too many personal choices for my taste.

    Hey Jeff,

Does the blue 66 Shelby mentioned here have a replacement left fender? Do original fenders have those raised dimples by the aprons? My Shelby has no raised areas on the fenders and I'm sure they're original. I thought I also saw black body putty on top of the edges of the Shelby VIN plate.

I am under-whelmed by both - strong $ for 2205- fender does not look correct - blue shocks? no pix of under carriage, but plenty of pix of the Hertz car in that area?
The Hertz car leaves me cold - for a "restored" car it lacks a lot of detail @ that price.

Not stating the car is an untouched original ;) but looks pretty good

Yes 66 San Jose cars used the driver side fenders with the relief's in the fender lip. But 65's did not have that feature.. might be the reason yours does not have them ;)

The "body putty" is likely a heavy application of the sealer that was applied between the fender lip and the inner fender panels. Normally is was a light "just enough" amount that was not easy to see but sometimes the guy got off a bit or during a restoration

Mike would agree I would need allot more pictures and the prices would be a personal thing (I've always been terrible at determining what someone would pay for a car)

The blue shocks on the blue car look to be correct for the car (discussed in another thread) and appear to be the original (washer under the shock heads appear to be present) Autolite or FoMoCo ones
