SFM 6 s 1446, I sold this car in the early 90's http://www.svtperformance.com/forums/showthread.php?t=448073 One less real car. Mike
make a grown man cry wouldn't it ....... i wonder how long before it's restored back to it's former wonderful condition
Thats just about enough to make ya sick to your stomach. Was it an original 4 speed car? Best Regards, Vern
Mike - .........if you read down the list of threads it's stated that the car in the fire is actually 1445 and not your ol' 1446........still a real shame to have that happen to any shelby though !!!.
It was an auto car, converted to a top loader, was a matching # car except fro the trans and the two front fenders & valance were replaced (I still have the originals - can I "build" a car around that? I have the Ford VIN - others have done more with less! ) I think I know where the tranny is as well and I believe that the person who posted the 1445 # is incorrect. I checked with Howard, and the guy who's car burned was 1446. I have his name here somewhere. The second owner (before me) used it to deliver pizza's in the Alexandria area back in the 70's, I have a pic of it like that. I sold the car to a guy in the area that burned in early 90's to help me buy a house, which turned out to be the right thing looking back and also looking forward at my good fortune of getting a 67 and then finding 65 # 17. In any case, sad, one less 350. Mike
It is a really sad to see that. The owner probably lost so many other things too. I wouldn't worry about the car though.. There is plenty of sheet metal there.. It will be back on the road again with lots of new parts. jimbo
That really hurts to see. Further down in the thread someone made mention of a GT350 racer that was lost too. Wonder if that one was a real car.
someone will buy the salvage and the old girl will rise again;it will prob show up at some high profile auction house as a fresh numbers matching(wink wink)award winning restoration.(this is why you should always verify history) steele
I wonder which of the other cars in his impressive collection burned right beside the Shelby, and it looks like a vintage motorcycle also burned right behind that car on the right side of the Shelby. I would be alsolutely inconsolable. Yep, it's only "stuff", but some "stuff" really can never truly be replaced. Some of us Muscle/Collector car folks look upon our cars pretty much as family members. Several members of this gentleman's car "family" have perished in the worst possible kind of death, fire. Insurances rarely make a person whole after a disaster like that. How can you replace one of a kind type cars or motorcycles? Even if you get other reasonably comparable replacements, they will have different numbers and personalities. Doc
I laughed when I read where the guy posted that the insurance will probably only pay $90K for it because it was not a concours car.......... I would NOW say to the Insurance Company...... "PROOVE IT WASN'T". David.
I have been fighting a fire loss for over 2 years;insurance will wiggle worm and just try to wear you out so they can opt out on the cheap.I lost bussiness equipment/some personal items in my office. Its been a nightmare. So everyone keep those appraisals/pictures inventories in a safe deposit or at least a fire proof box. steele It has been reported on another shelby site that the owner has given his blessing to put pictures of the car as is in the new registry.
This brings a question to mind. How do the registry owners confirm authentic cars really are destroyed. In other words, if they don't physically confirm this somehow, what would happen if a person started forwarding a pic of a destroyed Mustang and saying "5SFMXXX" was destroyed in a tornado, here are the pics. At best, I could see this causing a lot of turmoil for an owner. John Thomas
Why would someone say that a car was destroyed when it was not? What would anyone gain? If it was done for malicious reasons, the truth would come out, and I like to think that most of us are above that kind of thing. Mike
I would like to think no one would do something like that, but why would someone start a computer virus? What is the gain? Unfortunately, people just do that crap now days.
Final info - it was 1446 - I have confirmed the ownership info (who I sold it to, etc) with Howard. Mike
I find it somewhat strange that something that is movable (unlike a house) is lost in the wild fires. I know if that were my car, I would have tried to move heaven and earth to get to it before it burned? I know it was probably easier said than done at the time, but still?
