Just have to share my good fortune. Found a 1965 Mustang Fastback w/ 61K miles, 289, 2V, auto for $7500. Extremely clean underside (no rust what so ever, had to have been in garage most of life), like new original interior and slight rust on bottom of doors and small rust starting behind one rear fender. Car is in great original shape except.......... Has 66 Shelby side windows, 66 side scoops and fiberglass Shelby style hood. So, group, which way should I go with the car?? I'm open to ideas. I have a 68 fastback that is "hotrodded" w/ 351 W built up , etc. for my fun car and the 68 KR Convertible for my Shelby original. What to do, what to do............. I'd like something my wife could enjoy, so don't want it too wild or loud, but it should be a fun, enjoyable driving car. thoughts?? disk brakes (power or not), rack and pinion steering??, sway bars & lowering springs?, lower the A arm (Shelby style, not sure of the value of this), AC or not, ??????? Car is red interior w/ Wilmington White and Red stripes. Appreciate any ideas. Dan Wilcox Wild and Wonderful West Virginia
Dan, if it was my car and I wasn't thinking of redoing it for some future resale but for my wife to enjoy I'd make a nice driver out of it. To me that means disc brakes, maybe all around, total preformance's rack and pinion with power steering option. I'd probably do some engine work if I was driving it. For my wife I'd leave the 2V and the automatic. Dennis Dan Wilcox wrote: >Just have to share my good fortune. Found a 1965 Mustang Fastback w/ 61K >miles, 289, 2V, auto for $7500. I heard someone say an AOD; good suggestion. I have a "Lentech" AOD. It is a high end AOD which can be shifted manually all day long. It also has the normal shift pattern when shifting manually (1st all the way aft and then 2nd & 3rd as you slide it forward). It works fine with my stock 67 shifter. I have the Street Terminator Plus version, but there is one below it that should work fine. The key is the valve body that allows for the normal shift pattern. Without it I believe the stock AOD's have an unusual up and down shift pattern as you shift from 1st to 2nd to 3rd. http://www.lentechautomatics.com/aodhome.html Hope this helps. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Dan Wilcox" <dwilcox1@charter.net> To: "shelby" <shelbymustang@carmemories.com> Sent: Monday, April 11, 2005 6:45 PM Subject: new car > Just have to share my good fortune.
