With the '08 show season nearing, I have decided to return the exhaust system on #3014 to stock configuration. I don't need manifolds, just from there back. I'd like to know what the most correct system is out there if more than one is available, and who sells them? Thanks. Al
Jim Cowles at Shelby Parts and Restoration sells a 2 hump intermediate pipe that looks identical to the assembly line system . The humps refers to the distintive shape the resonators have . It is correct for 67 and 68 GT350/500. I think he still has some . It is about 4 times the price of the 250.00Branda alternative. I guess it depends on how correct you want to be,a NOS set is about 2 to three time the price of the system Jim sells. Jim's exhaust intermediate pipes are extremly difficult to tell the difference from NOS when installed. The generic transverse available from any number of venders is your only alternative. The C7 transverse is non existant until Scott Fuller decides to do some those . He is in the final stages of doing the 68 KR transverse. The H pipe and the transverse turn outs are only available in the generic form as well. There is no good repro exhaust tip and Branda is the only alternative. The intermediate pipe with its distinctive shape of the resonator is easily identified with a casual glance under the car that is why I think it is great that Jim went to the trouble of replicating them. I hope this helps in making a informed decision that is right for you.
Al: Bob is right on as usual, however I want to warn you about the exhaust tips that are being reproduced/sold by Branda, and others, as I ran into this problem when replacing the exhaust system on my 67 GT500. The diameter of the tube of the reproduction exhaust tips, the end that slips over and clamps to the tail pipe is too large. I had to have the ends of the tail pipes "flared" larger to meet the diameter of the reproduction exhaust tip, not to mention, having to open wider, the correct 2" "horseshoe" style exhaust tip clamp on the horn of an anvil in order to be able to slip over the tube of the tips. It was a tedious job, and caused alot of headaches before getting everything matched up. Kenny
Thanks for the heads up, Kenny. I bought the tips about 17 years ago, dont remember where from. I will look at that closely when they are off. Al
