    I have access to a 289 block.The numbers are as follows 6R09K152891.Date code 5K13.Cast number 0C5AE6015E.And also the name Yates is stamped on pass side of block in front.The block is standard bore with 1 sleeve.
    This motor belongs with the car it was built with.Any ideas??

    Bob,

    The engine is the 271/hp K-code motor. These cars were the ones Shelby used to produce the GT350.

    6 = model year 1966
    R = Built in San Jose
    09 = Fastback car
    K = 271 Hipo motor

    152891 = unit number, consecutive

    I think there were some 5400 K-code cars built in 66. Pretty rare

    Hope this helps
    Ken

    Is the first set of numbers you supplied the VIN number for the car?

    This is also used in K Code Cars as well, not Just Shelby Mustangs. Odd To have a Standard Bore and a Sleeve. put a Posting over at www.Vintage-mustang.com The Name Stamping probably occurred at the Machine shop that Put the Sleeve in for identification purposes. Is that all that is available?? Crank, rods etc.?? There is a possibility that the Car was wrecked or Stolen and that is how the Engine got seperated from the Car. Or, someone put a BOSS 302 in etc. :cool:
