I've been contemplating trying to find a "basket case" 1965 GT350 for some time. I was wondering what everyone's opinion may be on the relative value range of such a thing. I understand that there are a myriad of factors, but assuming it has numbers as well as unibody pretty much intact intact what you expect to be reasonable as far as a purchase price given the current market?
Re: ok...time to survey over 100k for rough basket case. ...unless you get lucky and find one outside the mainstream market that's buyable. Better cars more. I suspect 65's will ride out the soft market better than most.
Re: ok...time to survey 100k min for a shell, unless you just happen to "find" one. During my search, I found a few that were shells, some with a little more, and that seemed to be the starting point. PM me if you would like a few pointers I can share with you. Mike
I have a show winning GT350H and assuming I sell my '65 Vette (sale pending) in the next couple days I should have about 25K to throw in. Of course the GT350 isn't liquid but it is a Shelby that's really nice and turn key. Anyone have any idea where I may find someone who would be inclined to "work something out"?
Post an ad with Howard for the next snakebite and put it on all the forums you belong to. Send me info on your car and I will get it out to a few people I know. Mike
is this a hypothetical exercise, or you actually know of a "basket case '65 GT-350 ? The ones I know of fall into two camps. Either a clapped out heavily modified racer or a pristine over-restored trailer queen. Z. Ray
Z, he is trying to "Find" one, has not yet. There are a few basket cases left - I know of 2, and the owners would not budge off their "dime", and I would not pay what they wanted for stripped cars that were little more than unibodies (and one did not have it's Shelby tag, just the stamping on the pass side) The one I know of in Idaho I have heard was been sold, the other I don't know. This is where being persistent and doing your homework comes in. I think Orlando Mustang has a 65 that is a "Clapped out" race car, at least they did a month ago. Maybe Pete will take a trade? Mike
If you like email me your info and I will post it on the 65 GT350 website For Sale/Wanted section. http://www.1965gt350mustang.com/forsale.html
HOV, He has posted there already. (Did you make those copies for me? I have some info for you as well - email me) Mike
You can buy the one that just sold at Barrett Jackson for $420,000 with the wrong radiator and had reverse lights!!! Gimme a break! Kenny
That sounds like # 069. I noticed the incorrect parts a long time ago. The tape rocker stripe and placed too high. It is still a nice car and you know they don't make them anymore. Proper placement for the rocker stripe could set you back a few thousand these days!! HA HA.
I do know about the Orlando Mustang car (old racer). It has no serial numbers left and no SHelby specific equipment. I believe it is beyond restoration and not something I feel I could work with (I don't do missing serial numbers).
I believe 5S 515 is for sale in Las Vegas. The current owner wants to sell and buy vettes and camaros for their business. You all may remember 515 Tony Sousas car.
Hey, put me on your list of guys interested in your 66 if and when the time comes. If you get close to deciding, i'd like a few details about your car. My email is gt350-66@hotmail.com. Thanks ! -Gary
SFM5S515 has been sold recently so I'm told by the owner (he's buying another car off of me). Besides being nicer that I expect or really can afford, it was avaiable for the asking price of 260K. Obviously beyond my wallet anyway...
