Prices overall are down from the insane levels of last year. I think the Shelby marque did as well, or better, than any other. Although you can't really tell how good a car is without seeing it - there were two 66's that seemed cheap to me. That blue/gold Hertz looked to be stolen. I think it went for $135M.
The Boss cars seemed to go at the correct prices - but almost all cars were down 33% to 50% from last year.
Also - hard to believe Shelby's 69 GT500 went for more than than the Green 427 Cobra. They "pumped" some of the cars unmercifully on Saturday night. I can understand the cars auctioned for charity - but on a few I really thought the Barrett Jackson guys had an interest in the deal (above their 10% fee). I finally turned it off when John Schnieder started singing while STANDING on the roof of the Charger he was selling.

Prices seemed down from last year, to me also. There were some pretty good deals that went across the plate. Maybe with the mortgage crisis in the U.S., it is affecting how people spend their money.

I watched every bit of every episode and I wasn't impressed with any of the prices. I had a strong feeling the prices would be the way they were...LOWWWWW. Even the announcers kept saying "WOW WHAT A BUY!"
When Carrolls 69 Shelby Conv stalled at $500,000 I knew there was a problem. It was up to the auctioneers to get the crowd pumped and finally Ron Pratt saved the day "again". Come to think of it, if Ron Pratt wasnt a car nut, we wouldn't see the big $$$ prices or records set. I was really shocked to see a Elanore do better then some of the REAL Shelbys.

The key evidence that the market has gone way down showed itself when the 68 red Shelby GT500KR conv. sold for $175,000 compared to the Gold Shelby GT500KR conv. that took $250.000 in the past years.

The economy is at its worse and the auction proved that. Being involved in Real Estate I can tell you things are really bad for this Country and everyone feels it financially. Bush finally admits we are in a recession by offering Tax Rebate Checks. How much tighter can the economy belt get?

There sure was a ton of Corvettes! And they seemed to do well. I persoanlly liked the BATMOBILE the best. That was a awesome clone. The work and detail that went into that car was pretty amazing. I thought it was a great buy and deserved more in my opinion.HMMM..Maybe i can clone my Shelby into a BATMOBILE?:)

Interesting that even the high end cars such as the Duesenberg were off - sold for $1,000,000, down roughly 50% from recent historical levels.

Does anyone know the history of the Blue Hertz car? It looked great at from a distance and seems like a good deal. (Especially for Saturday night at B.J.) The 65 GT350 brought strong money as did most Shelby's. I think the Hemi craze is finally cooling off as a few went for half of last years prices.

How much did the 65 sell for? The 1968s were all 30-40% lower than in past years..There was actaully a KR convertible that sold for less than a couple of the fastbacks...that's not normal:ph34r:

Regarding the BJ Blue w/Gold striped Hertz car. If memory serves me correctly the blue cars were numbered in the 1100 VIN range. This may be a black car with a color change. For the money, I would rather have a Cobra then a GT500 ragtop.

The 65 Shelby sold for $420,000 - low # car, number's matching, and a racing pedigree.

I saw some of the Auction......too much going on with having to help out my Sister and prototyping a 2 point Roll Bar for 2005 to Prestent Mustangs & Shelby's. I was very shocked to see a beatiful White Torino Taladaga go for ONLY $42,000.00. I would have loved to have bought that car. And YES....The "BATMOBILE" I most favorite car of the whole auction.

I don't necessarily agree with all the Shelby/Mustang prices being down.

65 GT-350 Sold $420,000 (wrong radiator and had reverse lights) And that's from the brief view we got on TV.

67 GT-500 Sold $320,000 (why, just because Mike Shelby owned it over 17 years ago, who cares?)

Boss 429's Sold for in the $250,000 to over $300,000 range. (seems about right)

I thought most of the prices was right on target, you can not judge what a car is worth sitting on a sofa. I would say that most every car there brought about all it was worth. Every car at Barrett Jackson is not a great car like they want you to think. And I`ll tell you this, a lot of the buyers are not all that smart either. Why would you pay a million dollars for a 08 Vette? A lot of the buyers out there buy things that are shiney and full of fluff. You get so used to seeing people pay 2 or 3 times what somethings worth then when something brings what it is worth it sounds too cheap. The reason the hemi cars have fallen is because everybody that had one was trying to sell it thinking they were going to get rich. When you throw that many in a market it is sort of hard to find that many people wanting one that has that much money. When you have a hot market everything brings big money but when it cools off a bit the so so cars fall off but the great cars survive it. I think Shelby`s car brought plenty, that was 3 times what it was worth without the history. You also have to keep in mind it is a 10% sale fee and if you live out there you have another 7 or 8% tax to tack on. I would say that you could count the cars on two hands that you could have left there and made money on. I would say the sale was a success and it proved there is still a lot of money out there.

Just got back from scottsdale about five minutes from now. Prices are not so much down as they are "adjusted'....cars with excuses or stories suffered this year (finally). Good cars are still bringing good money however, in this current market, the car better be really truly good to get good money. Also, the prices are not only due to the market so much as the buyers coming back down to earth. Last years money was ridiculous and i think we all know that........just look at it this way, the lower the prices get, the more cars we can all buy! Hell, prices have no bearing on my enthusiasm for shelbys!

I only watched a few times during the week-end. Early in the week I saw a csx 289 FIA sell for I felt a reasonable price, and also a red 69 GT350. Then later in the week a white 69 Talladaga , that seemed very nice. The money for the 69 convt owned at one time by CS, just stupid. I liked Lenos line to Miss Hurst." You dont want to know what I did with your poster in high school! Nice to see you Linda".

I thought the money for the convertible was pretty close to on target. Many thought that i was going to go for over one million, including myself simply because of the lights, cameras, and free "beverages" to bidders. However, i was pleased to see the car sell for what i thought was a reasonable price.

Ya !!! what was with the Talledega ? I thought it would go for at least 75 or 80 thousand. Lots of history with those cars. I thnk the biggest drawback is they were never offered with a 4speed or bucket seats. Ford just wanted to sell 500 of them for homologation to run in NASCAR and didn't care about options or painting them more than just 3 colors. But for 42,000 dollars, I would have loved to buy it !!!! GREAT LOOKING CARS !!

Lets see if I can recap some of what I saw/remember

    Russo & Steel

65 GT350 - few things like later master cylinder and done details missing - no sale at $300

6S2330 Saphire Blue GT350 - Bob G's car from a few years ago Sold for $200 Bought by a buyer that had his mind made up!

    68 8T02J149346-01145 - Red Hertz car. Recent Restoration - Sold $103

68 8T03R186434 Pete G's Special order paint convertible - No sale - bid to $161

69 GT500 Convertible - Orange with white interior. Fresh resto with owners still putting on decals Saturday morning. Believe it was bid to $200 but owner were looking for $300

Hand full of other KR's, 67 GT500s no real standouts IMHO

    BJ

6S1926 - Shaphire Blue - After market AC added, incorrect black under carriage and plenty of detail things. East coast car. Price surprised me ... but what do I know about how others should spend their money

The 65 GT350 that sold on Saturday looked to be bought as a present for some ones young boy friend or son. The lady bid but everyone around was patting the yound guy on the back ;)
Plenty of other 67-68 Shelby big blocks for sale a few I had judged through the years. But you guys saw all of those.

One owner of a green 67 GT500 (don't believe it was ever run through) was really trying to sell his "driver"? for $135 on Sunday

Saw the talledega in person...was nicely done and in great shape. Well presented too....many people let their cars get dusty and dirty when sitting out at barrett, but the owner of this ride was making sure it was spotless. Well bought.......quite an understatement.
