Folks, I'm new to this website and will soon own a 2008 GT500 Coupe or CV; negotiating as I write this. I always loved the older Shelbys but much too expensive for my blood. But, now I can afford a new Shelby, so I'm gonna spring for one! I'm 53 and have owned quite a few Muscle Cars; I'm not well known for what I have or have owned, but nevertheless I can't wait to get my hands on the new GT500. I know an Shelby expert on this web site can help me out, but what is the opinion of sending a GT500 to Shelby's factory in Vegas and having one of the options installed; either the 605HP or 725HP version? Do you think the engines will be reliable? What do you know about the two options being offered re: 605hp or 725hp version? Do you think installing one of these options will devalue the car in the long run? Thanks for a very informing web site. Jim
Re: Shelby Fever! Welcome to the site! I will let someone else field your question about the engine upgrade, it is certainly not my forte' Tell us more about your ride when you get it and be sure to post pix! Mike
Re: Shelby Fever! I am not familiar with the Ford engine's reliability to power upgrades. However, I would speculate that any upgrade done by Shelby Autos will not devalue the car and may even slow the rate of depreciation. robin
Re: Shelby Fever! I understand that the 600 hp upgrade is warranted and the 725 hp is not. If you want to get these modifications, though, you might want to call or write them soon - I think certain packages are limited (like the 40th anniversary) and others they may not be taking deposits / applications for right now. I don't know the protocol for referring you to other "competing" websites, so I won't . . . you can do a google search I'm sure.
Re: Shelby Fever! Jim, if you google "team shelby supersnake" you'll get pointed to a wealth of info on StangsUnleashed/TeamShelby. The SuperSnake is pricey and mandates the factory stripes be removed and will be replaced with matte black, so if you think you'll be springing for it be sure to order your '08 GT500 with stripe-delete option (side and over-the-top). There are also many well thought-out mods for the GT500 and Evolution Performance's bolt-on engine mods are very popular. Stages from 500-750+ rear-wheel(!) HP are available. The 605SS would be about 510rwHP and the 725SS would be about 615rwHP The 605 carries a warranty, the 725 none. These engines have been extremely reliable -- even guys I know running mods in the 650-725rwHP range (750-850crank) have had no engine failures. Sctually, I'm aware of no engine failures at all. I see StangsUnleashed/TeamShelby site is down for regular maintenance right now, but it google-search "team shelby supersnake" you'll find them right away.. there's threads dedicated to specifically what you're asking and much much more. Have fun! Dan
Re: Shelby Fever! Welcome Jim! My thought is that you would have enhanced value. The SuperSnake is a very fast car so be prepared to buckle up and hold on tight!
Hi Jim, I have an 07 and absolutely love it. As far as the options, I got to look at them up close at Shelby's 85th celebration and they are outstanding! That being said , prepare to be wihtout your vehicle for 6 months. Thye are backed up and are trying to get mod centers around the country online. Your best bet is to enjoy the car for a while and if you still want to do it go for it. The 725 HP voids any warranty on the engine.
Re: Shelby Fever! You guys are awesome! I didn't expect so many quick replies!!! Thanks to all of you for the welcome and information! Very friendly web site! I have to use a larger font cause me old eye balls have to squint to read the smaller font! I recall joining the Yenko web site a year ago as I was posting a for sale add; and someone left a message asking whether or not I had paid the dues yet!!! I was taken back by his question, like who really cares!! And since I spent 29 years in the Marine Corps the editor of the web site extended a join for free to all retired and former military personnel. That was one guy, but his comment was uncalled for. Are there dues for this web site? If so, I'll pay readily. I'm considering going with the 725HP option. Why? Well, as the saying goes, "You only live once," and when will this opportyunity arise again? Probably not for a long time and I'm in my 50's now, so who knows how long I have left to enjoy the fruits of my labor!!! The Corps took a toll on my body; lots of health issues, so I'm gonna splurge guys!!! And I just went through a divorce where I lost just about everything I worked for. So, I sold my 1970 Judge CV (that my ex never wanted but she got half of the value in cash!!!) and I'm gonna buy a Shelby GT500 and get one of the options from the Shelby factory. Thanks again Dan and to all of you for the super info; I'm calling ASAP!!! You all take care and Semper Fi! Jim
Jim you are making me jealous. I love the look of the Super Snake. As for future value, if you're in your 50's now who cares what it will be worth in 40 years. Built it the way you want and drive heck out of it. Let your grand kids worry about restoring a well used/enjoyed 2008 Shelby Super Snake.
