they had to have a Mustang? For me, it was early in the Year, 1979. I was in Class (High School), our Class was in a Portable Building out by the Parking Lot. I was BORED to death and luckily the teacher left out Door open. I could see this Beautiful Blue 1965 Mustang Coupe. For the whole hour of Class all I did was stare at this Mustang. By the end of Class, I knew I had to have one. A couple of weeks later a Lady ran into my Car so I made her Buy it and I bought my First Mustang. A 1968 Coupe, 6 Cly with Automatic.

It was in 1968. I was in my front yard and could hear the sound of an approaching car with a rumbling exhaust sound. When it popped over the hill into my sight I knew it was a mustang by the shape but I had never seen one like it before. I later learned it was a 68 shelby, I don't know if it was a GT350 or 500. It stirred something inside me that I still feel today whenever I see one. I bought my first car in 74, a 68 mustang sports sprint"B" coupe and I've had mustangs ever since.
Hopefully someday I'll own another vintage shelby.

My first car was a mustang and being from a Ford family nothing else would do. Everyone in my hometown drove Mopars and GM. I was the oddball. Now Look after all these years I'm still the oddball!! But I still have all my mustangs but the one I started with.

It was 1970 for me. My dad bought a 1965 coupe from my Uncle who purchased it new. My problem was that I have three older sisters and I had six more years before I could drive. I prayed that that it would make six more years. Thanks to a Plymouth Duster, a Plymouth Arrow and a Mustang II it made to me. I drove the ole Pony through High School, College, first date, drive-in movies (remember them?) cruising.Do you remember how many people you could fit in Mustang? In 1982 a Pinto wagon spun out in front of me and I T-boned it, allmost end life for everyone. Luckily I survived, not so for the Pinto, its driver and the Mustang. There is a silver linen to every story and this one is that with the insurance money I received after recovering, I was able to buy the 1968 GT500 KR that I have to this day. I still have the glove box ,keys and the title to the Ole 1965 coupe that started it all.

1983 - being an exchange student at Dalles High School, Oregon - my classmate Karl had a 1966 Mustang hardtop, pumped 289 with a 3 speed. From that day on I knew I would own a Mustang one day, even though we didn´t have many in Denmark.

    1989 I bought my first - a 66 convertible :)

1982. I was visiting my dad in LA for a few weeks in the summer. He took me to meet a friend of his called Sandman. According to my dad (questionable source) this guy did a lot of the body work on the original Batmobile. He had a pretty decent sized shop in his backyard and did custom body work and painting there (hence the name, Sandman). He had a black '65 coupe he'd painted and pinstriped and he was telling my dad it was a strong little motor. One thing led to another and pretty soon we were hot rodding around San Fernando Valley in this poor customer's car. I remember sitting in the back and feeling the motor pull as he slammed it through the gears. I was sold. Once I had Mustangs on my radar, I started noticing fastbacks. Then I started noticing Shelby's and that was the end of it for me. Got my first Mustang early in 1989... 1965 Fastback 4V 289 with a four speed... still have it. I went on my frst date with my wife in that car 18 years ago. Occassionally when she bugs me to sell it, I have to use that against her :p . Of course she doesn't remember that the rear brake line broke and I lost the brakes on that date (single pot master cylinder). Had to downshift into first and dump the clutch to lock up the rear wheels every time I needed to stop. I'm sure that did wonders for the transmission and rear end.

Ford started advertising "Mustang is coming" back in early 1964. The commercial just showed horses running. Then in april, about 2 weeks after the Mustang was put up to market, I was walking home from grade school. A 64 1/2 coupe was in a drive way. I must have stood there looking at it for 10 minutes. I knew then I'd own one someday.
Afterward, I noticed there were a lot of car magazines with Mustangs on the cover.
And, in 1966, my dad bought a new 66 coupe. 289 2 bbl, automatic. And he had 3 teen aged sons. We used to go out into the country, riding around. One day he pulled over and said "you drive". I was 14 1/2 at the time.
    So, about 6 months after I turned 16, I bought a used 65 coupe. 289, 2bbl, 3 speed stick.

I was 9 years old when the mustang hit the magazine racks and then the streets. I was in awe of the body and interior styling and when the fastback came out I knew I had to have one when I grew up. But all that changed in late '66, early '67, when my friend and I were walking home from Jr high school. Suddenly this beautiful lime gold '67 GT500 pulled up in front of us, it was my friend's brother who stopped to pick him up. My jaw dropped as he did a massive burn out and left me standing there engulfed in the fumes of his burning rubber. It was at that point that I decided that if I was going to buy a mustang it was going to have to be a 1967 GT500 Shelby! Fast-forward to October of '74, I was working at a Fedco Dept store in Van Nuys, CA collecting shopping carts when a dark moss green '67 GT500 pulled into the parking lot. I asked the guy if he was interested in selling it and he said yes. We cut a deal and I paid him $2000.00 for it and have had it ever since. I love the car and wouldn't sell it for the world. I'm 53 years old and still a mustang fanatic! I also own a yellow '99 GT.

It was summer of 1971 when I went to my grandparents house. My 21 year old uncle pulled in with his 70 Boss 302.....The Orange color stood out, the sound of the engine was sweet. He took me for a ride in the car, I was sold. Too bad he blew it up and then wrecked it after the 2nd engine. Fastforward a few years, I'm 16 and buy my first car, a 1967 mustang coupe with a 289 Auto. The car was nice but mechanically draining....car was sold to get a torino GT, while I searched for a Shelby. That opportunity was found when I was 18 and picked up my 68 GT500 that I still own 30 years later. Love the car and I still drive it when it is nice.

Late summer 1969, I saw a New Mach 1 and knew I had to have one. It took me til 1977 to get my first 'stang it was a 1972 Mach 1, 4 spd. I sold it in '84 (there was no room for the kids). Now here I am much like Vinny, 52 years old enjoying every minute I'm behind the wheel.

I was 15 years old and in grade 10,back in 1982.Ihappened to be browsing through a Mustang Monthly magazine and happened upon a special article on Shelby Mustangs, the rest is history.Fast forward to 2003 when I was able to acquire my first Shelby,a 68KR.Was then able to purchase my second one in 2005 which is a 69GT500.
Although I was not even born when the first Shelbys were being built nor did I even know what a shelby was prior to 1982 they possess a mystique that makes them almost magical.I don't believe any other automobile can provide that kind of excitement.

Lots of great memories from all.Mine was when I was in kindergarten, back in 1965,when my teacher got a new ,orange 65 Mustang and drove it to school every day. Then ,one summer when I was visiting my cousins in California in Del-Ray,their house was on stilts over looking Del-Ray,they introduced me a their neighbor, who at the time had some cool cars. It turned out to be where Carroll Shelby lived!!!!!:guns: If I had only been old enough back then! I think I was under 10 at that time.:thumbup:My first Mustang was a 67 Coupe, what a rust bucket! Used lots of bondo on that one! Got my first Shelby,a 67 GT 500 for $1200.00,back in the late 70's.Now have 7 Mustangs and never have enough time to get the most out of them!

My first car was a 68 6 cyl C4 Mustang coupe. Preaty to look at but boring to drive. That car was responsable for me being a Camaro guy for the next 15 years. Around 1990 a friend gave me the keys to 6S671, to do some work on. I was hooked and had to have a Shelby, but never thought I could aford one. Thanks to the price correction of 1990 and alot of hard work I now have one of my own!

The first Shelby Mustang we rode in was Rich Rodecks modified 67 GT350 back in the early Seventies. We were living in San Francisco by the beach at that time. When he was two blocks from our house our neighbors all came out of their houses to see what that rumbling thunderous noise was that was approaching our block.Back then Rich had installed side exhaust pipes on his car.Besides being an awesome driver he was also a master auto body and painter(he found and restored the Bud Moore/George Folmer Boss 302) and had literally spent hours fabricating the plexiglas quarter windows for his car.It was not only striking to look at but also very Loud and very Fast.Getting our necks snapped in that Shelby and feeling the andrenaline rush was to say the least Thrilling!
Around that same time I took my fiancee to Mostly Mustangs in Oakland and there she met and saw a Ford GT that belonged to Jerry Scheberies. After her ride in that Machine I knew she was hooked!Lucky me as this made it much more easier for us to plan and scheme our way into Shelby ownership later on. Thanks Rich and Jerry Lol
