'66 Hertz wheels

As far as I know, all currently manufactured Magnum 500 wheels have design differences than the ones that were make "back in the day".

The rims lack the safety bead (inner bead) mandated on later wheels so the area between the outer bead and the point where the center attaches will be straight and smooth. Later wheels will have a second bead in this area

Mopar wheels had lug nut areas formed to meet up with different sized lug nuts.

If you also look at the outer area in Jeff Speegel's picture(excellant pix!) where the yellow arrow is on the barrel of the wheel it is much wider than later models of Magnum 500's.On the inside of one of my wheels which you can see when the tire is off it is stamped:
14 X 6 JK UNISTYLE 1 - the number one is upside down on my wheel
95 MADE IN USA H (with small no.5 inside the lower half of the letter H)
and a small vertical oval logo to the right of the letter H

Both Jeff Speegel and Craig Conley are extremely knowledgeable should you ever have the chance to pick their brains.

Can you eduacte me on the detailing on the wheel lips of your car? Are they in the shadows of the picture and not showing, or are they really blacked out right to the edge as it appears in the picture? If they're blacked, was that something that was done to some of the cars when masking, or was that done by an owner along the way? The reason I ask is that all the pictures of '65's and '66's I see seem to show the stripes returning around the fender lips and the fender lips are the body color.

I know this is a real "beginner" question, but I've got to learn somewhere, right? :blush: That's what I love about this site. You and Bob have probably forgotten more than I can ever hope to learn.

All the original Shelby Mustangs that I have seen have all had the same color as the body paint on the wheel well lips.The striping colors also wrap around the wheel well lips.Hope this helps

Josh the car in the picture had its rear fender lips rolled in 69-71 and they will be repaired when the car is restored. The "look" can be misleading ... sorry. As Kenn described.... wheel lips were painted completely with the exterior of the car. Side stripes extend to and over this lip

Thanks for taking the time to answer! I figured since it was your car, it must be right, but I was sure all the cars I'd seen have the lips painted and the stripes returning around the lip. Makes sense that it's just waiting for you to make it right. I'm surprised they rolled the lips down that far, though. Most of the cars I've seen just have the lips rolled up top and extending only part way down the sides where rubbing is a problem.
