    Hi Doc,

for the last five to ten years you can start with DMV.I believe in most states they only retain records for that amount of time.If the car in question was bought out of state then you may want to get help from that states DMV.And of course there is always SAAC.
Once you start the chain of finding the most recent former owner it's like doing detective work in tracing each former owner. You may get info and leads from each owner as you go further into the past.
Regional Shelby club members from the areas of past owners can be a very big help too as there are usually a member or more who has good local knowledge of these cars.Try also any Mustang repair shop that is in that local area in question especially if the shop has been around for some time.
Good luck on your quest and be persistant. After all this is but part of this hobby.Think like Sherlock.

Is there history in the last registry to help?
If you don't have a registry, if you provide the # I'm sure someone here will have it (I normally would, but am on vacation without all my resource materials)

The Marti in combination with the Registry information is your best bet for pure facts. (though registry can be wrong sometimes)

DMV's are not as helpful as they once were with anti-stalker and privacy laws what they can tell you is very limited to nothing in many states. Add to this that after the car is no longer in the state or registered the info is purged from many of the states data bases.

As mentioned, if you know where the car was, local Shelby clubs may have someone around that still remembers the car and its owner(s)

I would suggest you contact Vinnie the shelby registar for 69 and 70. He most likely has info on your car. You can contact him on the SAAC web site

The basic Marti report costs about $20.00 Fire up that Shelby, and sweep up the 5's and 10's that come flying out of the tailpipe.

Ok, if you order a Marti with a Shelby vin number, also E-mail the registrar so they will let Marti know that it is a legitimate Shelby Vin. That cuts the time down.
Also, provide the Ford vin with the Shelby vin (to Marti)

Also, in order to get a "Ford 999" report (free), give them the Fomoco vin number only. Fomoco recorts don't know anything about a Shelby number. There is a 1-800 number to call. I don't have it.

Hi to Doc and all! We should first ask what year the Shelby is? Then if it is a 67-70 Shelby we could give you a few options, most have been mentioned here already. The post by Rod is quick, and the number to phone is available from your local FORD dealer. The customer assistance center will fax or mail you the document, after you have provided a V.I.N. They are not always 100% accurate, but at least dont cost anything..Are you looking for anything in particular?
