I travel all over Florida in my line of work and lately I keep seeing white Mustangs with a black stripe down the side that says "GT/CS". I have seen at least 5 of them this month, the latest one tonight in the Publix parking lot. I'm guessing it is just a dealer stripe job but I have seen them from Daytona all the way down into Miami. The stripe is down the side and not on the rocker panels. Any info? Is it a real car from Ford or just a dealer invented thing?
Those are California Specials. A throw back to 1968. It is a special Package installed at Ford. It uses the Front & Rear Bumper Covers and Side Scoops from the Shelby GT and it has 2 Tone Leather Seats. David.
Fairly limited offering in the past year or two and I don't know if it is an annual model / special edition or what. Primarily a cosmetic upgrade package similar to the 1968 edition.
Ford offered the California Special (GT/CS) option for Mustangs in 2007 and 2008. The 2007's came in black, white, blue and redfire with a black stripe down the side of the body. The cars could be ordered in the coupe or convertible. The Shelby GT utilized the front and rear bumpers and side scoops from the GT/CS. This was not a dealer installed option.
Interesting. I've seen plenty of California Specials without that striping so I didn't make the connection.
