Could the 425 H/M intake be a standard Ford "425" horse 427 intake with a H/M name cast on it for retail sales?

425 was the horse power rateing that Ford gave its 2x4 427 engine. It came in Fairlanes and Gallaxies. Perhaps Lee Holman could answer your manifold questions. He still runs H/M and has a web site, he even sells H/M stamped intakes. You can buy alum heads from many sources, water pumps from a few. Let us know of your engine plans and if you find any new information. You have just a great car and it has sparked my interest. Thanks for posting!

i have e-mailed Lee Holman to see if he could help. the engine i have is a 66 427 built in december 66. it has been sonic tested for cyl. wall thickness and bored .030,parallel decked align honed with torq plate, has been blueprinted and balanced, 10:1 comp. crower roller cam, dove roller rockers, millidon oil pump, pent roof valve covers,an original aluminum water pump #xe126529, original heads #C6FE-6090-C, hollman moody 2x4 intake that looks like fords C5AZ-9424-G. i have not located an original harmonic balancer yet. i have built a set of 2 1/8" x 36" headers that will have cutouts under the middle of the car and run out over the rear end out the stock exaust tips. this is how the original owner says it was.

FYI. I would think twice about using the C6 alumnum heads unless you are not planning on doing any hard running. The heads were not designed properly and although run on the MKII GT40's I have heard that they were replaced after each race. The relativly low compression of the GT40 engine helped . All sucessful drag race 427 used high- 12 or,13:1 compression which is a formula for desaster with those heads. The story goes (urban legend)that the Shelby race team back in the day wanted the heads quick and had them made simply by using already existing cast iron head molds and used aluminum instead of iron. The weaker aluminum would move around in the combustion chamber area and other places. I had a set of the C6 heads and used them on a 10.5:1 engine but continued to blow head gaskets until I changed to a set of edlebrock heads. I didn't have anymore problems.I sold the heads to Scott Minch who was building a vintage display engine. The C6 heads do look cool in any case.

I am not sure what the production difference was on the B head. There had to be something. It is my understanding that both had problems. Mike Ulrey a friend and long time drag racer from back in the day was the one that told me that they had nothing but problems with them. He is the same one that restores the carbs . He is a great information source. The SK number was some kind of numbering system. They were on the heads I had too. I think the Boss 9 parts use something similiar. I think you have a 50/50 chance of not haveing problems. It might be worth firing and some brake in time on a engine test stand to verify the situation before all the work of the install especially when big block headers are involved. My problems manifested themselves before I even got mine to the track. After the second time of a blown head gasket and trying all the aluminum head installation tricks I called Mike and he gave me the low down. I know other people have used them but for how long and how hard I do not know. The nostalgia signifgance in your case is important. It would be worth it to talk to a builder who has sucessfully run them. You might call Mike or maybe kieth craft or cobra automotive. With a little machining you can make the edlebrock heads look pretty close to the ford heads. thats what I did. Worst case scienero run the engine with some dressed up edlebrock heads and have the Ford heads for display. I hope it doen't come to that but I thought I would offer a alternative if needed. I would definatly not run antifreeze in the engine until you get a few hours on it to confirm that the head gaskets are holding. I am just a little gun shy because of my past problems . The best of luck with the restoration . Let me know if I can help. Bob

Just don't let Gaines drive your 427 car. Next thing you know he is racing Enzo's.

First off there was no second thought It was a honor situation . I HAD to try and uphold the honor of the Supersnake. I was pulling away from the Enzo and would have beat the Enzo if Ed Meyer hadn't distracted me with his little girl squeeling and made me miss third. Second, I was hoping I would have to fix it that way I could have had it in my garage at least for a little while.

427GT if you are going the Dove route, talk to Dove but by from a dealer. DSC motorsports is a dealer and is in southern calf. I havent delt with him but he does have a web site and states all alum peices are pressure checked. At one time Dove had some perocity problems. Shelby heads are the same as MR heads and his roller rockers fit without interference on valve covers.Just a thought at precaution.
