Check out these photos. Sometime 25 years ago, while putting my 67 GT 350(#0036) back together, I wrapped the front headlight wiring slices with tape. And, I'm in the middle of correcting this. The slices are supposed to be exposed. And, they are supposed to be white colored. Well, I recall I was having a highbeam problem back then, so I removed one splice on each side, and just soldered the wires. I also left the other splice on the wiring. Well guess what, they are black colored. And the black is not from the tape. The plastic is black. Go figure. I'm going to put on the white colored splices but thought I'd show you about some 67 odd stuff. A question for Bob or Kenny: Does the wiring going up into the center highbeams have their harness' taped? I recall the post about there being a tie-wrap on this wiring also.
Rod, it would be reasonable to asume that the white tie strap was the most appropriate fastener. The white tie strap or "zip tie"was most commonly used on early cars in this wiring area. The white zip tie would be the likely suspect since it was used in other places were a quick fastener was needed like on the amp gauge harness and like on the oil pressure line through out the entire 67 production. Some later produced center headlight cars used a specialized plastic clip that had adhesive on one side and the clip on the other . I have seen a piece of black electrical tape used but that would take longer to apply and would be the exception and not the rule.
Bob, My car had the special plastic clip on the hood latch upright...one on each side, for the headlight wiring... Mark 67 GT350 #130
Mark, It would be great if you could post a picture of the clip I can't seem to find any in my files.
These are the orig (grey)clips....one on each side of the hood latch support...for the inboard headlight wiring... Wiring also had the White scotch connectors... Mark
That is one of the ones I have seen also. I have seen one other variation that is longer and narrower. They are a common (might be hard to find a exact match now) electrical clip available at electrical supply ,electronics supply, hardware stores etc. Thank you alot for posting that . It is a obscure part of the puzzle.Bob
The best thing about Scotch products is they don't change much. The molding of those 41 year old black 3-M splices is exactly the same on my recently purchased white splices. I'll try looking for those plastic self stick clips too. And it seems the harness is taped to the centerheadlights too. Thanks folks.
Tough question . I would be afraid to categorize it as a running production change because the evidence suggests that it wasn't a permanent change and that it went back and forth between different types. It could however be categorized as one of several types used in production without a early late co-notion . Bob
