    Hello All,
Can anyone help me to identify a correct master cylinder for a (late) 67 GT 500? Markings, overall shape (pics?). etc?
    Thanks so much,
    Carl Schneider

Scott Drake makes a excellent repro. It is smooth top (no lettering ) and no vent (70 style). The cap comes zic dicromate (gold) which is correct for the inside and all you would have to do is paint the out side black (like the intire outside of the master cylinder and booster were painted black at the same time) and apply the correct sticker (ECS brand -from npd catalog) . I hope this helps

    Carl,

Once you have it painted and installed, be very careful putting brake fluid in it. I'm sure you know this but brake fluid will eat the paint off anything in a heartbeat.

I suggest you use silicone brake fluid. About 28 years ago,
I flushed out the entire system and put in silicone brake
fluid in my 67 and have not had any troubles since. In fact I still
have some of it left in the one quart bottle.

Actually I am looking at what the owner claims to be a rebuilt correct original, although the cap is obviously not.
The casting (s) on the bottom read:
    BENDIX C99X / 2227091 /
    any thoughts?
    Thanks again,
    Carl

Is that the correct location for the "Must drive 25 feet" tag there on the master cylinder? I have one but not there.

Mike ,As far as the tag is concerned, It is my personal feeling that it is the place I feel is most apropriate. To explain some reasons, I have found remnents of the wire and the round paper ring in the location of the master cylinder cap . I have not come across a more appropriate tag . I have seen people use them in the interior at car shows but have never seen any provenence for it. Wire tags were not normally used inside the interior because the wire would scrape the chrome. String was more appropriate for interior tags. This is a "NOS" tag which is confirmed by the trademark on the reinforcement ring and came with the wire. Weather wire or string,in the interior it would have been removed after predelivery and inapropriate for a car being displayed in a "as delivered to the first customer" manner that the majority of concours events use as a standard. The other alternative would be to attach it in a place that provenence has shown some kind of tag was attach to before and the brake warning tag would be the most appropriate tag to put in a place that is supposed to be checked for fill level during prep. Anti Freeze tags ,OK For Shipment tags ect. were placed to remind the people doing the predelivery prep of what to do under the hood. It is still a predelivery tag but it is a common occurance for items under the hood to get overlooked and left alone unlike things in the interior were they are more obvious. Like I said it is the place I personally feel is most appropriate. I hope this explains things.
