Does anyone know why Ford used a different motor mount design for Hipo vs standard 289 engines? This has always seemed odd to me. Were there failures with the standard mount on track cars? The need for a different ride-height in Hipo cars? Just curious.

    1965 and, I believe 1966 through October/November
had specific motor mounts. Personally, I don't believe
they were stronger on race cars. Walt Hane, 1966 champ
and race car builder/driver once told me that he always
replaced the hipo motor mounts with standard ones on the cars
he built for himself and others as they were better/stronger for racing.

    Thanks for chiming in TS.

Thinking out loud, Ford may have changed the mount for Hipo exhaust manifold clearance.
