Not likely, but anything is possible. Do you have any more info, like where is this at can you access the ID tag?
I couldn't tell you, but, it is the famous "Gulf Oil" colors of the car that won LeMans bac-to-back in 1968 & 1969. Also, Ford sold some new Ford GT 40's with that color combo. They called it the "Heritage Edition". Bob Gaines owns one of those.
FYI Ford changed the shade of the colors on the 2006 Ford GT slightly from the original Gulf Oil colors because Gulf wanted a big licensing fee to use their colors.
The real deal at Laguna Seca for the Monterey Historics in August, 2003. Note the absence of side mirrors. Also note the contour of the orange stripe on the nose section, among other minor differences. Not that these things necessarily denote real vs. kit (most real GT40's I've seen have the mirrors, albeit they're mounted in various different locations), but this seems to be a case where the kit is attempting to mimik the actual car in the attached photo. It's hard to tell due to the quality of image David attached, but those front tires sure look like Goodyear Gatorbacks. I don't think there's a GT40 owner who'd be caught dead with his car wearing modern street tires. Josh
I should have further clarified: The picture I attached is of #1075, which I believe is the real "#6". There were two cars at Laguna Seca that year, both wearing Gulf colors and #6, but one (also a real GT40) had been painted especially for a Ford commercial for the new Ford GT. Which brings up another point... who would let someone paint their real GT40 just for a commercial? Answer: Someone with a lot more money than me, who can afford to put it back to the way it was. Josh
