Unfortunately, when we restore these cars, most of us have to undo years of careless and ignorant changes or repairs. While we may consider outselves experts and concours correct perfectionists, most of these cars were worked on in the past by those who were careless or amatures. Restamping a VIN or repainting a part is acceptable restoration practive as long as no fraud is intended. Creating "air" cars is different than accurately reproducing the original factory appearance. You can always find a lawyer or over zealous public official that is looking to make a name by prosecuting innocent restoration practices. That's my two cents worth.
