Hi guys A few weeks ago we talked about the plastic rear window of the R Models. But are there any detailed pictures out there of an original without the weather strippings? How thick are the 4 alloy pieces that hold the window down?? How does it look without the window installed? I mean something must be set in there to raise the window up to get it flush with the outer surface of the vehicle. Is this piece welded in??? Please let me know if you know something. Bye Jerry
A square section, aly bar (bent to fit in the aperture) sits in the recess and the plexi screws onto this. On my car the aly was seated on a thin bead of sealer and a thin strip of waterproof rubber was sandwiched between the plexi and aly bar - necessary to prevent trapped water/ingress.
Your window is screwed on the car? What i heard and saw till now looked more to me that the window just lays in place and is kept there by 4 square alloy plates wich are riveted on the car. Have you any pictures of your window? Thanks Jerry
The method you describe would be fine if you didnt have to contend with rain! To ensure a good seal to the rubber membrane, countersunk nylon screws hold the window to the aly. The edge of the plexi was blacked, so in effect the screws cant be seen. Sorry no detail photos: the car is tucked up elswhere at the moment.
