Hi to all ! Just wondering what most of us consider the most enjoyable event we have participated in? A personal favorite is Monterey in August..Several Shelby conventions have also been outstanding, the best blend of people/cars/racing? The second part is which museum? and will the long in the works Mustang museum ever get off the ground?
I love all events but specially the SAAC conventions in the end of the 80's beginning of 90's. Haven't been able to participate after that. The reason I think it was better overall 15-20 years ago is because there was no ebay. This meant the swap meets were much more fun with basically everything you could think of for sale and good deals were around. Texas Swede
2004 Monterey Historics where Ford celebrated 100 years of history. Tulsa Mid America Ford Meet every June. Still a family event with drag racing, open track, car shows, cruises, evening parking lot bbqs and an auction (in past years before Leake moved to another weekend). 2001 SAAC Convention in Charlotte where I got serious about owning a Shelby. Unfortunately, in my opinion, the SAAC events have gone downhill from there. Fewer rare and quality concours cars. Less real car guys and more new speculators. Nothing beats the Shelby Museum in Boulder.
How about any of the SAAC conventions held in Dearborn? (Shhhh) A little street racing/burnouts. Great swap meet stuff - well before anyone thought of buying real estate after they sold a piece. We still didn't know "everything" about the cars. The 'ol man would autograph anything....free. Track event.
Personally, I loved the SAAC Convention at Road America several years back. Lots of history at the track and great cars all around due to the Chicago Historics that started the day after SAAC. For a great museum and a fabulous new track - you can't beat the Barber Track in Birmingham, AL. MCA had a nice show there last year. SAAC needs to put it on their short list.
