My '67 GT350 needs new power steering hoses. I have checked the NPD catalogue, and it lists five pieces (I think I understand where they all go!) Trouble is, they list some of them as different for a GT350 compared to the standard '67 289 engined car. Is this right? I don't know of any significant differences in the steering between the shelby and the mustang (steering box ratio perhaps?) So why the difference? Has NPD got this right? David
skidado, Welcome to the frustrating problem of trying to find the proper hoses for a '67 Shelby GT350. I restored my '67 GT350 2 years ago and the power steering hoses were without a doubt, the hardest thing to do. You need to try to find the following hoses: 1. C6OZ -3A714 A 2. C6OZ -3A717 A 3. C7OZ -3A713 C 4. C7ZZ -3494 AB Note: Hoses #1 and #2 are the short pressure hoses to the ram. Hose #3 is the pressure return. Hose #4 is the lower pressure hose. Now for the real challange: 5. S7MS -3A719 A OR C7ZX -3A719 A Note: Either the 7SMS ( Shelby ) OR the C7ZX ( special use ) hose can be used. Same hose, just a different number. It's the upper pressure hose from the pump that goes down to connect to the lower hose ( C7ZZ ). This is the real kick in the pants to find. I did find the C7ZX hose. But te guy who has it ; refused to sell it to me. Said he "might need it" and this is a person that does not have a Shelby or intends to buy one. Go figure. Good luck on your search! It won't be fun. shlby66
Ok, I'm beginning to get a clearer picture now. But why does the shelby have one hose different to the standard Mustang? I thought engine bay packaging was the same for both vehicles? I will check my hoses again. Only one of them appears to be leaking (it's one of the two that pass under the lowest part of the whole system, where the metal coiled protection wraps around the hose. I suspect it's the low pressure side, as it leaks only very slightly. If all the other hoses are good, I might just replace this one - I hope it's not the 'special' one! Thanks David
Different systems. Shelby uses the PS cooler and a different pump which utilize the lower junction block. Mustang uses more of a hose to valve and return from valve setup which has no cooler deviations.
skidado, You should be able to find most of the hoses from some of the obsolete parts dealers. If your lower pressure hose ( C7ZZ, the one that connects to the upper pressure hose at the junction block ) that is is leaking; you can use the lower hose listed for the GT500. I know that will work satisfactorily as thats what we used on my friends GT350. As far as the special upper hose from the pump to the lower junction block; they are almost impossible to find. I was lucky and found a S7MS 3A719A by accident in a Ford power steering service kit that a friend had. The trick on this special hose is that the metal attach part of the hose to the pump, has a unique bend to it for proper clearance for its routing. Hope this helps. shlby66
Hi David , i thought you told me you had a clone car , so why are you worried about the number crunching ? THX, John
You must be confusing me with someone else. Mine's a real one (#02751). Have a look in the members' gallery under my user name. David
FYI The 67 and 68 GT350 both use the lower junction block brkt the same as the big block . The unique upper pressure hose connected to the back of the pump on both 67 and 68 GT350 can be replaced with the big block pressure hose although not historically correct. Bob
I'm using the Big block upper pressure hose. Any chance we could get the C7ZX hose reproduced Bob? Randy
A little more detail on my hoses, and further confusion - I took a close look at the hoses on my car today. There appear to be SIX hoses in all. Upper pressure hose - pump to valve Lower pressure hose - pump to valve (these first two joint together to form one hose) Two hoses from the valve to the ram Return hose -valve to cooler Return hose - cooler to pump I can see how these two return hoses differ from the standard Mustang setup as the Mustang doesn't have the cooler (I think I'm right...?), although I've not seen two part numbers for return hoses. But assuming the pump, clamping (isolator/support) block and valve are all the same for Mustang and Shelby, why would the upper pressure hose be different? I'm not saying you're wrong, just asking why this would be so. David
There is a engineering number for the return hose but when replacement time came the master parts book (1968 edition) indicated to make it up from bulk. That means to cut your own from a spool of correct (sorry obsolite) hose. Some on ebay currently if you do a search under Shelby. On the pressure hose I am sure it was a engineering decision having to do with the remote P/S cooler. The big block system is the same with the exception of the pressure hose to the back of the pump. FYI when looking for the 2 hoses going from the ram to the control valve the 67 and early 68 style had several fat ribs and the late 68-69/70 style had many fine ribs running down the length of the hose.
