Hey there, I am gently breaking in the rebuilt motor on my KR convert. The temp guage stays in the center when running at 60 mph or below but it I get it to 65 mph or above, it pegs to almost 3/4 to "H". My guess is this is a weak fan clutch. Before I take it out and have it rebuilt, any other stuff to check for based on this feedback? Mike
You may want to give your radiator a look. If it is original it may need a good cleaning, or if its been fixed before some of the core could be sealed off cutting off capacity. Just a thought!
I think the fan clutch would cause it to over heat a low engine speeds not at 65. By the time you get to 65 the air coming throught the grill will far excede the air a fan will pull. I would check the radiator and the advance curve on your dist. I had a FE that would overheat a high engine speed. Found that the vacume advance was shot. After replacing it the engine ran much cooler. Larry
