Is there a different console insert for auto or 4-speed Shelbys (like Mustang 69-70 consoles), or is the automatic style used on all? Do the Shelby inserts not use the 2 spring steel tabs that slip under the console (in the front)? Not the ones that hold the insert from moving side to side, the 2 that hold the insert down in the front, like Mustang consoles use. My Shelby insert does not even have the holes for the tabs where they rivet on on a Mustang piece. It is an original, not repro. Without the spring steel tabs, I don't see what would hold the insert down in the front of the console. Hope I am clear on this. Thanks, Mike
I believe the tops are different for a auto vs. 4 speed. I will have to check on the clips. Will be in Columbus all weekend.
Looked at a NOS insert for a Shelby a couple of days ago on EB** and it had the small metal retainers. Away from the show or I could check a couple ones there. Is it possible that you have an earlier reproduction insert of those point have been damaged on your original?
I'm pretty certain that mine is an original, when did they first reproduce this part? I have had quite a few original Mustang inserts, so I am familiar with how the originals are made, but who knows? Thanks, Mike
Mike if you are in the area stop in and we can look at a nos one I have. I just checked the one out of my 70 gt350 convert and it has the tabs.
OK Kerry, I'll drop you a line next time I am up your way. BTW, did you know about the green 67 GT500 4 speed car bought right in Springfield last fall? Real complete & solid car, the guy owns a body shop & is customer of mine, plans to restore it. Mike
