Supercharger knowledge wanted

    Hey Guys,

    Your knowledge as always is greatly appreciated.

    I have a 1966 Mustang Fastback with a 351 Windsor linked up to a Keisler Perfect Fit 5 speed. 4:11 gears out back. I have been looking into putting a Paxton Novi 1200 supercharger on the car.
    The car does not have a radical cam in it and puts out a 9:4 compression.
    Horsepower is at roughly 385 at the crank.
    I am running 245/45/16 tires at the rear.
    I want to run a stock hood but I have a dual plane Edelbrock Performer intake which may complicate things since a 351Windsor is taller. I have spoken with a few that have told me it will fit however.

    Here are my questions-

    Would I even be able to hook up with my tire if I bumped up to a supercharger?

    How hard are these things to tune and keep tuned with a Holley? I do have mech secondaries.

    I always appeciate your input and knowledge. ;)

    Hi....I would have to say that the hardest thing to tune would be the carb...I ran into the the problem with the motor sucking to much air while shifting when getting on it, resulting in bad pinging...I run a Holley 650 double pumper and had to increase the accel pump cam so it had a longer shot after getting back on the throttle....With a 5 speed and 4.11s traction will be a problem....from my experience 1st gear would be useless with wheel spin...hope that helps you, any other questions just ask....

    Ask the expert, Craig Conley of Paradise wheels. San Marcos CA. I have been running a Paxton on my 66 fastback with K heads, which is way to high compression for it's own good. I have blown 2 sets of head gaskets in a very short period of time and now moving to worked Windsor heads.

    He may recommend 1/2 head bolts instead of studs and a timing boost retard module to reduce/eliminate the detonation.

    He also has the carb you need, already jetted and set up for your application.

    I run a SN2000 on my '67 Shelby.that is a completely stock 289 hipo....
    I use the Factory Autolite 600cfm carb, and have the stock 10/1 compression...runs great!!!

    I had the impeller upgraded for the Paxton..

    I am sure the newer model paxtons would provide more boost..Talk to Craig, at Paradise Wheels, he will be glad to advise you...
